How much excercise does your dog get? Chewing stuff/"digging" up the floor sound like signs of boredom to me. Is he locked in your room all day? If he isn't let out in the morning and is kept in your room all day, he's going to have accidents.
Then again, he's only a year old. Our puppy Jack still chews stuff if we leave him out (one time he chewed my brand new World History book!!!). Our golden retriever still chewed stuff till old age.
The accidents, maybe he's not fully trained to go outside? Something that gets pet stains and odors out of carpets, Nature's Miracle, is what we use if our dog and/or cat throws up or has accidents. It works really well.
The only advice I can give is keep stuff he's not supposed to chew; books, papers, shoes, anything out of his reach. Substitute that stuff with acceptable chewy toys; tennis balls, squeaky toys, bones. The accidents, just try putting him outside more so he has time to go outside.
Another thing we do with our puppy Jack is put up a gate to keep him in the kitchen. There's nothing for him to get his mouth on and if he has accidents they are easy to clean off the linoleum.
The digging is a sign of boredom so maybe play with him when you get home and make sure he has plenty of toys!!!!
Hope that helped some!!!

Well, no one can expect their dog to listen just because you say so; it takes a lot of training and you have to teach him what's right and what's wrong. Locking your dog up in your room or in the house all day without anything to do can be the reason for his distructive behavior. A solution could be to buy some toys for him especially for when you're gone or to take him to a doggy daycare [there are some]. And about the issue about how he does his 'business' on the floor, that's another thing that can't be avoided unless you teach him the proper way. Especially if you're gone all day to be at school, you can't expect him to hold it all day until you get back, especially for a puppy only a year old. It might be better to make sure someone takes him out every few hours so he could do his 'business' outside, or you could house train him to go on a few pieces of newspaper. House training is a whole other story though, involving a lot of TIMING and patience.

A young dog poops and pees more often than an adult dog, is there anybody that can let him out to do his business during the day? He probably doesn't want to go in the house either, but he doesn't have a choice.

check it out, all about training dogs. they are tough, need consistant guidance, the older they get, the harder it is. is there a pet smart store near you? they offer obediance training, they have some people who will work with you at home, for a fee..the shaking stones is a good idea, or clap your hands loudly and say NO when he does something wrong..it does get frustrating. i think you may have to crate him or at least fence him off in one room while you are gone, make sure he has lots of chew toys, and leave a radio with somewhat soothing music on while you are at school..
good luck

He's only a year old...he's a puppy...he needs to run, play and chew. If you are keeping him closed up in your room or your house all day, that is why he's misbehaving. Also have you tried to teach him what is expected of him and what you do not want him to do?

obedience school. you can also spray him with water and say "NO" when you catch him doing anything. he also might mellow out in a few months, considering he is almost still a puppy.
Good Luck!!
