They have an anal glad that has to be expressed by the vet, if not it expresses itself and really really stinks. Has anyone expirienced this? Can the vet remove the gland?

We have never had her glands expressed. We feed her Beneful, I think. Whatever it is it's name brand and supposed to be good. We cannot afford an expenisve dog food since we have 15 other pets and three people to feed.

all dogs have this gland. It is called an "anal Gland" Just take them in to the vet when they start to scoot on their hind end. Eating a balanced diet is the best thing so the stool will pass correctly and drain the galnd at the time of evacuation

ALL DOGS have anal glands, not just dachshunds.
Call your vet and discuss the removal with them the next time you take your dog in to have they're glands squeezed.

I have a dachshund and I've never experienced that. Maybe it is your dogs food. My sister has a dachshund too from a different breeder and both of our dogs have sensitive stomachs. They have had the same brand and type of dog food since they were weaned. We both use NutroMax Mini Chunk in the pink bag. You might try that before you go through the expense of a vet.

Okay all dogs have this gland, the groomer usually does it with my shih tzu's but you can learn to do it as well...it is gross, that is why I do not do it. Ur vet or groomer could show you how. the best time is bath time, because it can be messy

Its not like de-scenting a skunk! I'm pretty sure they shouldn't remove it.
