Mostly a dog's temp. is taken rectally and should be about 100.5 to 102.5. However it is possible to take it with an ear thermometer. Taking the temp. in the mouth makes it too easy for they animal to bite/break the thermometer, and usually fur prevents a true reading, where anally the thermometer gets the core temp.

Here is a good website that can help in instructions.

I've never heard taking a dog's temp in the armpit. The rectum is the most common place. There are also ear thermometers, but my vet said she doesn't like them, she doesn't think they're very accurate. A dog's normal rectal temperature is between 100.5 and 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit.

If your dog has a body temperature less than 99 degrees or over 104 degrees, contact your veterinarian or local emergency facility immediately. A high temperature could mean your dog has an infection or heat-related illness. A temperature below normal can be just as serious, indicating other problems such as shock.

Take him to a Vet for a complete check-up.
He might be OK but why take a chance.

Whenever I took my dog to the vet they would take it up her butt. She hated going to the vet. They always had to muzzle her because she always growled and showed her teeth at them.
