I just got off the phone with a friend that now has two b***hes with it. I intend to research but was wondering about your experiences. I only had one ***** diagnosed years ago and she was given antibiotics and then surgery. She did quite well.

I just got a new puppy and she is extremely playful, which is great because I have two active daughters. The thing is, that when she bites in play she does it too hard. I don't know how to teach her to "play bite". She even scratches them when she jumps on them, I have cut her claws, but it doesn't work. I know that she is not trying to hurt them, she is just playing, but it causes my children harm and I can't allow it too much longer. Any advice?

Has anyone ever used a dog wheelchair from the company "TailWagon"? I'm starting to look for a wheelchair for my 12 year old german shepherd mix and this seems the most affordable, but I want to make sure it will be comfortable for my dog.

My dog keeps getting into the trash and chewing up my shoes. Is there anything I can put on the trash can and my shoes? He seems to favor my white ones so I dont want to use cayenne pepper in case it stains.

Does any one else out there that has a dog that does this or know why he does it, only thing i can think of is it feels good on his old bones he is 7 years old. Sometimes he will lay there right in front of it for 15 mins till he is burning up and i will have to yell at him to move.

A friend of mine owns a sybirian husky and i just got a rottweiler.
i am always saying how nice it's going to be when we take them for walks on the mountains or for camping and he is always telling me that we will not be able to do that because if we bring them both his husky will kill or anyway bit my rottie...
that kind of bothers me because his dog is a very friendly and nice one and second i don't believe a husky would win a rottweiler in a fight. but since i will never proove that because i will never ever let my dog get in a fight, he will keep telling me these things. so irritating...
i wish i could proove him that he is an idiot and that he is wrong about the husky winning by some other way... we are good friends but he is trying to show off that his dog is stronger and better...

I was told my the petsmart employee it was a good brand to protect against cancers and stuff (which Boxer's are prone to) is that ture or did she just tell me that because Nutro was more expensive then the rest. Cara is loving, devoted, happy & extraordinarily beautiful. I adopted her (June 6, 06) after losing my dog-companion of 11 yrs. Having fallen in love with her on our first meeting - I have tried to press through Cara's behavioral issues. She was so sweet, sedate, and well mannered during the 2 wk. trial that I named her Caramel Honey. It beats me how she knew when that trial period was up, but she became a terror the next day. Truth is, I would have kept her anyway, but my husband would not have agreed. She is about 15 months now. Her bad habits are leaping on me and all others. She throws her 55 - 60 lbs into her front feet that hit mid-stomach knocking the wind out of whoever is on the other end. That is a particular problem for the last 2 months because I have been gravely ill. She is also hyper, has running fits in the house and delights in continually tormenting the smaller pets (a Yorkie and 2 cats). A friend recently described her as "beautiful but awful." Help!!!!!!!!!

Does it seem like every time you try and post a question or
comment to a dog list, you get yourself into trouble? If so, then
this list is for you. If you religiously follow all of the rules
on this Official DON'T list, you'll never get in trouble again.

The Official Dog Enthusiast's DON'T List

DON'T let your dog sleep in your bed. It will cause aggression
problems down the road.

DON'T make your dog sleep in a crate. Crate is just another word
for small cage.

DON'T let your dog sleep outside at night. If God had wanted dogs
to sleep outside, he would have covered their body with hair to
keep them warm.

DON'T let your dog sleep. You should be playing with him all the
time.

DON'T keep more than two dogs. Each individual dog requires
considerable time and energy, and it is impossible for a
responsible dog owner to spend quality time with more than two dogs.

DON'T keep less than five dogs. Dogs are pack animals, and five
dogs is the minimum number for proper socialization.

DON'T feed your dog kibble. Kibble is the invention of evil
capitalists who want your money, and kibble has no nutritional
value whatsoever. You might as well feed your dog sawdust.

DON'T cook your dog's meat or chicken. Cooking destroys all the
nutrients.

DON'T feed your dog raw meat or raw chicken. Raw food contains
salmonella, e-coli, and other harmful bacteria.

DON'T let your dog drink out of a plastic bowl. It will turn his
nose pink.

DON'T post messages to a dog list. You will surely get bopped on
the head for thinking that someone else cares about your silly
little opinions.

DON'T poke your eye with a sharp stick. It has nothing to do with
dogs, but it's a good rule nonetheless.

DON'T microchip your dog. A nearby cell phone can cause a
microchipped dog to explode, or so says the lady running the
tattoo booth.

DON'T tattoo your dog on the ear. A dog thief will cut off the
tattooed ear.

DON'T tattoo your dog on the thigh. He'll be a tripod before you
can say Ginsu.

DON'T keep a collar on your dog when unattended. He could get
caught on something and choke.

DON'T leave your dog unattended without a collar. He could run
away without any identification.

DON'T transport your dog in a plastic crate. Plastic crates don't
allow sufficient air flow.

DON'T transport your dog in a wire crate. In a car accident, a
wire crate transforms into a doggie skewer. On days you plan to
have a car accident, it is acceptable to use a plastic crate.

DON'T let your dog drive. It's against the law in many states.

DON'T enter your dog in conformation. It's b-o-r-i-n-g for the dog.

DON'T enter your dog in obedience. It's B-o-r-i-n-g with a
capital"B."

DON'T enter your dog in agility. The jumps will injure his joints.

DON'T send your dog out with a handler. Only a psychopath would
send their beloved pet with a complete stranger.

DON'T handle your dog yourself. You've got a great dog, and he
deserves a much better handler than you will ever be.

DON'T get a purebred dog. Too much inbreeding has produced dogs
with temperament and health problems.

DON'T get a mutt. You don't know anything about their pedigree.
In fact, if you're thinking about getting a dog, get a cat instead.

DON'T don't. That's right, you heard me, just don't!

DON'T leave your dog's dewclaws intact. He will rip one off
jumping a log or something, which is quite painful.

DON'T remove your dog's dewclaws. Dewclaws are acupuncture points
that are needed for proper functioning of the kidneys.

AND, the #1 DON'T .....

DON'T trim your dog's whiskers. Dogs use their whiskers to
determine the size of their head, which is important when they
are out shopping for a new hat.

She's a 5 month old Boxer/Pit Bull mix. She was jumping up to get a toy I was holding up in the air. When she came down and landed in her foot, she slipped and fell, then screamed non-stop for about a minute straight.

X-rays the next day confirmed it was a torn ACL and fractured Tibial Crest (in many little pieces). Has anyone had this experience with their dog/puppy? What do I have to look forward to? Anything I can do to make her chances of a full recovery better?

Doc says she can't have surgety 'til she's done growing...that's not for about another 6-7 months! Ugh!

My friend has a chocolate lab that starts to lose her hair every November. She has no fleas or other pests. She has a clean bill of health from the vet. When she is taken outside, she is monitored closely. This only starts to happen in November and clears up in a couple of months.

The owners have changed her diet, and monitor everything that she comes in contact with and still cannot figure out why this happens this time every year.

Has anyone else had this kind of experience with their dog?

i really want my pup to learn some tricks, any ideas? she's 5 months old, and she learned sit within 3 days of us having her and lay down a few days after that. she uses hand signals for those most of the time and she is getting better with stay.

how should we go about teaching her to roll over? she's starting to learn "paw" but thats easy since we can grab her paw a few times first, but i cant really roll her across the floor for "roll over". if we try to use a treat (and she's never learned anything for a treat, but she still gets them occasionally cause she's so gosh-darn cute) she is too focused on the treat to figure out whats going on, and she's got her head in the air so she isnt in the best position to roll. so... any ideas on how to work on this one?

or, any ideas on some new tricks to teach her? she's pretty bright so i wanted to "take advantage" of that since most of my other dogs never really got past sit/lay/stay/shake....

I just got a puppy from the pound and he had kennel cough, I took him back and they said that there is no treatment for this. They did give him antibiotics for a possible secondary infection but kennel cough has to run its course much like a humas virus has to. They did say I can use Robitussin DM for the coughing symptoms. The puppy is fine but now my older dog has it, the vet said we have to let it run its course but she looks so miserable. I am giving her robitussin but I want to give her a boost of natural antibiotics that are safve for dogs. I did get some drops from the health food store but they do not have any antibiotic properties.

HELP! Thanks

I want to get an adult purebred dog. (I'm 16, but I haven't got the energy for a puppy). My dad's fine with it, and we've GOT the money to buy one from a proper breeder. (My dad bought me a brand-new Lexus for my birthday, and I asked him if I could have the dog. He knows what they cost, and he said yes) ( I want a Yorkie or a Cavalier, maybe a Papillon) The only thing standing in my way is, well... my mom. We've always had large, mixed breeds OUT in the backyard, but my mom won't let me have one indoors because she thinks they're "dirty", because "they go to the bathroom wherever they happen to be". And we have a cat in the house! And she's always getting cat litter all over the bathroom floor, and she DOESN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT! Does that make ANY sense? How can I convince her that dogs are no dirtier than cats, and that they're fine with the potty business once they're grown-up and house-trained?
