My mom's friend's dog, who is a yellow lab/chow mix, has a bilateral swelling that runs along its left side, between its shoulder and hip, right over its ribs on that side, that is obviously tender to the touch for the dog, who yelps and nips if anyone touches it. What in heck could this be and what should my Mom's friend expect if she ends up taking the dog, which is 11 years old, to the vet?

I have a 9month old female boxer who is breaking out on her muzzle and neck and down to her front paws. She now is having small patches of hair falling out in the same area. I was told by the vet it was acne and gave me benziod peroxcide to put on it. It has been a month and not getting better in fact now her skin is drying out and she scratching till she bleeds sometimes. I have just started her on some omega 3 and 6 supplement hoping that will help. Anyone else have any ideas???

my dog takes everything out to the garden and hides them, phones, keys, toys, SHOES, everything. He has a dog flap so can come and go how he pleases. Please dont say move things out of the way that is not always possible and besides if he wants something he will get it. The only thing he doesnt take out are his toys and bones. I tell him off and send him to his bed but he just wont stop

I just got my puppy yesterday, he's a Bichon Frise. He was born September, 28th 2006. His colour is a creamy white.

I've came up with a few names for him,
Theo
Alvin
Coco
and, Romeo

I personally like Romeo the best, I want a cute and cuddly name for him not a manly one.

Here are links from my photobucket for pictures of him!

Do high energy foods, such as Royal Canin Energy 4800 and Nutro Natural Choice High Energy, give dogs more energy or do they just help high energy dogs maintain weight? I have a lab/golden mix who is in training for Search and Rescue, and she is extremely energetic (which is great!). I am wondering whether switching her to a high energy food will be of benefit to her,

I have a 6 yr old female amstaff and now a 6 month old male boxer.
When people come over (even people they both know very well) they get sooooo excited and continue to bark for 15 mins or longer.
I try to get them to quiet down by individually getting their attention and telling them enough. NOTHING IS WORKING.

They are both very good dogs, but this needs to stop. Its loud and at times embarrassing, they act like they are untamed beasts. ANY ADVICE?????

My mother wants to give me a small chihuahua that was abandoned by her neighbor. The problem is that my landlord does not want me to have a dog. I've asked him twice and offered a very large extra deposit even.

The reason he said "no" was because of the hardwood floors. The hardwood floors are very old and already have a lot of damage. But this dog is less than 5 lbs and my mom says the dog hardly barks and when he does it's more like a coughing noise! Also, I am a very meticulous renter and keep the house and the yard spotless. I would buy runners for several areas of the house where the dog might walk.

We have large tiled kitchen where the dog would stay during the day, so no poop or pee would damage the floors. Should I accept the dog and risk getting caught? My mom said she would care for the dog in the event that my landlord found out.

What kind of dog is Scooby Supposed to be?
I know I've been asking this cartoon breeds but I'm bored and I've had this debate with my husband in the past and he says it's supposed to be a Great Dane but I don't think it looks like one.

I remember years ago, we only gave the medication in the warm months and when we had the first freeze, we didn't give it because the source of infection (mosquitos) was gone for the winter. Isn't this just hype by veterinarians to make more money from us unsuspecting loving pet owners? I think it is just a guilt trip to make us spend more money!

We have a full grown 33lbs Lab-Chiuaua mix (don't ask) named Crash. He recently has been yelping randomly when he has been laying down. I noticed the problem two mornings ago. Crash came and layed down with me in the bed like he normally does after going outside. Well, when I moved to get up, he suddenly yelped. I barely touched him. It seemed to get worse later that day but then seemed to get better today. I'm wondering if he possibly pulled a muscle while playing? When he gets up and walks around he's fine. Also, he's eating/drinking as normal. He is not a chipper as he usually is, but he makes the effort. He only seems to yelp when he moves from laying down. He is now 6 years old. Anyone have the same experience? He just got over having a flu-bug about 3 days before, so we also wondered if that had anything to do with it.

My female dog (ok ... *****, such a horrible word) is 18 months old. She is (was) due for a season & noticed late last week or Saturday her nipples were looking prominent. On Monday the first spots of blood were evident so we declared her officially in season and stopped contact with all other dogs. My worry is on Sunday she was off the lead over the park - she disappeared with a couple of other loose dogs momentarily then went charging off to the other end of the park at lightning speed to get away from them. Could one of these dogs have 'done the dirty deed' with her? She clearly is in season now but there is a lot less blood with this season than there have been with the previous 2 but she may have just got better at cleaning herself up. Can I ask owners of girl dogs/breeders, does this usually happen? Is there a chance she's going to be pregnant?
Not really interested in answers from people who have strong opinions on whether or not I should breed my dog, thanks.

Both of my dogs have had all their shots and are on heartguard and frontline but lately hey both have been taking turns throwing up a yellow snotty like substance. There is no chunks just liquid. I had asked a vet bt he didn't know what to tell me he said it would pass on its own but it has been going on for awhile now. After they throw up they playy and are fine. Has anyone ever had this happen to their dogs and what was the outcome?

if an intruder broke into your house at night, or at the very least bark to let you know of the danger. if so what sort of dog do you have, or has this happened to you.
