We have a full grown 33lbs Lab-Chiuaua mix (don't ask) named Crash. He recently has been yelping randomly when he has been laying down. I noticed the problem two mornings ago. Crash came and layed down with me in the bed like he normally does after going outside. Well, when I moved to get up, he suddenly yelped. I barely touched him. It seemed to get worse later that day but then seemed to get better today. I'm wondering if he possibly pulled a muscle while playing? When he gets up and walks around he's fine. Also, he's eating/drinking as normal. He is not a chipper as he usually is, but he makes the effort. He only seems to yelp when he moves from laying down. He is now 6 years old. Anyone have the same experience? He just got over having a flu-bug about 3 days before, so we also wondered if that had anything to do with it.

He can still jump up on the bed (which is pretty high) and the couch just fine. A friend of mine said he may have pulled a ligament from behing dehydrated from the flu. When he had the flu he couldn't keep any liquids down, but once he shook it off, he was fine. Then, this problem just started.

I should also add that this is not every single time. It is random. We are going to take Crash to the vet but we wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience. Again, he walks fine and still does his cirlce dance while waiting for his treat and wags his tail a lot. He is not in constant pain as the first post may have came off as. He's normal and active.

Update: Crash is feeling just fine. He is back to his normal self. I believe it was an abdominal strain from him getting sick so frqeuntly when he had the flu. He was as chipper as ever this morning. Thanks for help, everyone.

Well you might think she is a drama queen but no the dog isn't the dog is just scared the thing to fix the problem is to help socialize with other dogs or humans.Mostly when dogs bark they are bored so maybe let you dog go a little more outside all dog need at least an amount of exorcise depends what your breed is.Make sure that when the people come they don't do anything that looks scary on a dogs point of view. When your dog is barking say ah in a voice that you really mean it.When you say that your not threatening him.By the way whenever you try to say something to a dog they won't understand it dogs speak dog language.Basically you can communicate with body language.Don't praise your dog for them doing something bad or doing nothing. When your gone get you dog a toy or something to do so it won't get bored. When the dog barks try to distract him.

Need a little more info, does dog still jump up? can he bend his back to reach down and feed? etc.
It maybe arthuritis, but has the dog been walking slower or not wanting to get up? If so, it maybe disc in the back that is out of place or something with the back legs, like the hips etc.
an X-ray would tell you. But either way get it to a vet. It can be fixed on some dogs as long as they're not too old. It can be very expensive though. It all depends on what is wrong.

I don't know about Labs but Retrievers are similar i think and they tend to have problems with their back legs as they get older.

Good Luck and find a vet

Could be arthritis or some kind of bone cancer. Maybe the flu really wasnt the flu. Take him to the vet.

My dog has those problems to. We started giving him calcium and asprin. Just regular over the counter, shoot I share mine with him. After a couple of days you will see a change. My dog takes the pills like they are treats. He knows its time for his meds when I shake the bottle. After the 1st month just give them to him every other day or when you notice it starting to get bad again. If you have any other questions about this just let me know.
And good luck.

I wouldn't hesitate to take him in to your vet. No, that's not a pulled muscle. His leg could be dislocated or have something internal going on. Poor dear. Take him in right away.
