That's a problem.

Maybe you need to demonstrate for him.

Dogs are pack animals and YOU my friend are the leader of his pack! So....now that you are a pack, you guessed it, the house is your DEN. No human or animal likes to stink up their own den. How would your boss feel if you laid one out in the lobby!? I didn't think so. Your dog is just being respectful of his house and family. If you do want him to go inside, they now sell about 2x2 feet patches of grass in containers that you can keep inside or on a deck. The dog can be trained to use this in the same manner a cat can use a litter box. This might sound nasty but collect some of his own feces and rub a little in the grass where you want him to go. Just a little, you don't want to stink up the whole house. He's got a great nose, he'll know where to smell. Anyways, with some repetition and praise and love he'll get the hang of it.

dogs are supposed to go to the bathroom outside. It is their nature. If the poop in the house they will stink it up anyway.

It really depends on the breed, I had a miniature pincher and I used puppy pads that you can get at wal-mart. They're scented for them to go on them. And they are specially made for house training. He did awesome on them. You just keep putting them on it and telling them"potty". But you have to have patients.

Probably because they know they're supposed to go outside. If you get new carpeting in the living room they will probably be happy to go on that, however.
