Toby is a 5 month old Sheltie. I also just asked a question about him being afraid of large dogs. He is a quick learner. He learned sit, down, come, and stay after only a couple of times showing him! I plan on doing obedience with him. The big problem is "heeling". He walks well on long walks. I use a harness since he tends to pull. Unfortunately, you can't use a harness when doing competitibe obedience. I need to get him used to heeling on a collar. He just sits there and I have to tug him to move even a bit. I reassure him and encourage him with treats and a friendly tone. He'll move a bit and then stop. He refuses to walk at my side. I never had this problem with training any dog to heel. He is weary of alot of things. Should I try a choker or would that just scare him more? Any ideas on methods of getting him to heel nicely at my side would be greatly appreciated! I don't want to give up because he is a very smart dog! He also is used to walking (continued)

Will a 8week old staffordshire bull terrier puppy be ok in a very large puppy pen alone, with a play area with chew toys approx (2ft X 4ft). bedding area approx (0.5ft X0.5ft), a smaller toilet area (0.25ft X 0.25ft) (puppy is trained to go toilet on newspaper). - How much food and water should be left out and how often do puppys need feeding. - I have heard of puzzels which contain food and also feeding timers?

My puppy is a rather big puppy. She's about 45lbs. My question is - After we bring her home from her surgery, how am I supposed to carry her around? She's pretty heavy, so do I just pick her up gently and put her outside to go pee? I don't want to hurt her stitches. Another thing, she likes to stretch a lot before she wakes up, will she still do that while the stitches are in there or does "dog common sense" tell her that she can't do it? This stuff is all so new to me.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

This has been slowly happening for the past 3 or 4 days. She is vomiting brownish liquid - sometimes a little foamy. When she got up to walk this morning she almost fell down like she has lost her coordination or has no strenght. I finally gave her some Pepto Bismol and she has a temp of 100.6 which is pretty low. Does it sound like she has been poisioned or just a some other kind of sickness going on? She is up to date on shots and heartworm negative- and on heartworm preventative. I used to work for a vet about 10 years ago so I usually know what to do when she gets a little sick but this time she has me worried and I need some help. So far- the pepto bismol has helped her and she has drank some water - but only a little bit. If she continues to get worse I will take her to the vet TODAY--SO please no hateful answers accussing me of being cheap and uncaring ---which is the response some people get when they ask for help with dog issues.

Been using tick wash, frontline spray, the dogs also had a tick shot from the vet (supposed to last a month but only lasted a week), and have spread lime in my yard (this kills ticks but they came back only after a few days). Anyone got any other ideas?

He sleeps in a crate for protection from the cat, and because my house is open plan. this is day five; he was a little better last night but still whines most of the night. I am taking professional advice about how to comfort him; but just wondered how long it took your pups to get used to their crates at night? Thank you

My parents said I can get a dog but I have to take care of it all by myself which includes feeding it.However I'm pretty sure it won't be healthy for it to go without food when I'm in school which is about 7:30am to 4:00pm counting traveling time.

My mom says I can feed it more before and after school but I don't think it'll work.

Is there a way to take care of it food when I'm in school?
If there isn't then I can convince my parents to at least feed it.

Okay, I'm not in want of answers like "Don't buy puppies online" I'm in want of what I should ask an online seller to ensure that they are legit and all that. I've gotten so far as requesting refferences, but i know that's not enough. I've also decided that asking for pictures of the parents is a good idea, too, as well as what conditions the puppies are raised in. See, no breeders in the area of the dog that I want so I cantacted a woman online about a puppy I want before I knew buying dogs online is a bad idea and I really really want a puppy and I don't want to settle for a beagle when what I really want is a papillon. Patience is not my forte. But, babbling rambling aside...
What should I ask for? Pictures in a specific position so I know it's not stock photography? C'mon, help a girl out here.

I have a 10+ year old Llaso Apso and lately he's been coughing a lot. I'm not sure if it is phlegm or if it's something else. Is this a normal thing for old dogs? Other than this, he's been himself, not sick or anything. What could if be?
