Do you have any more info you can give us, such as the size of dog you want, activity level, short/long hair, maintenance, feeding costs... Your question is a bit vague! Unlike another poster, I would not recommend a Siberian Husky to just anyone! They are so not a dog for every person, especially a first dog owner.

Have you thought about a Beagle? I own both a Sibe and a Beagle and I would happily recommend a Beagle to most people.

Everyone is going to tell you something different, so it's going to be what fits your lifestyle the best.

Here's my two cents: a rescued greyhound.

I adopted one two years ago that was a retired racer and love her so much that I adopted a second one this summer straight from the race track. What wonderful pets they make. They need very little exercise and are so appreicative of the attention they get. They do not bark (yea!), are not yippy and high-strung, and although they shed like every other dog, it's not noticeable since their hair is so short. And when they get to run??? The most beautiful sight I've ever seen.

Good luck with you decision and enjoy Scotland!

Why not a highland terrier? He'll certainly feel at home. Seriously choosing a dog is a very personal thing as they all have different characteristics and circustances concerning size are very important. A Great Dane in a flat won't be much fun.Good luck.

You should get a Retriever of some sort like a Labrador cause they are the most playful and friendly dogs ever! But they need a lot of space to run around in and a lot of exercise. You could also get a Border Collie, they're very sweet too.

Hi JC I am a huge pit bull fan they are great dogs and fine companions when we were at University in Glasgow we lived in a family owned flat on Gibson st and we had a pit there. they respond very well to living in the city if you are going to live in the country even better, The breed seems to need the most help so head to the shelter and adopt a Pit they are super gentile if you raise them that way and should you decide to have a family they are GREAT with children.

Pulmeranians are very cute and loving....they have an average life span of 18 years also, which...well, the life span is a good thing to know about a dog. Good luck!

One that fits your life style but how about:

Airedale Terrier
Highland Terrier

If your going to live in Glasgow - Rottweiller! Only Joking!
Rottweiller wont be big enough, I suggest you buy three.

A small mixed breed shelter dog. You probably won't even have to pay for it, just licensing fees.
