crate training a dog at night is the best way I found. I used to be in your position. I always thaught it was crule to put a dog in a crate until I got my bulldog. Put the dogs bed in the crate and and when you go to bed put the dog in it. I always had the crate beside my bed. The first night the dog will whine and moan but the second night is better. The dog will learn that that is his or her own space and love it. When you feel the dog is ready you get rid of the crate and leave the bed there. You can also use a box. For a larger puppy you can use a dishwasher box etc. That is what I used for my boxer. I still have both dogs and they know where their bed is. Put a stuffed animal in ther with it to cuddle.

It's simple but you are not going to like it. You just have to do it. Make him sleep away from you. Give him a place to call his own and he will get used to it. I have a lab puppy. He is crate trained, so I just tell him to go to his house and he goes no problem. He even goes in there with his toys sometimes when he is playing. The 1st couple of nights were rough because he wined a lot and we all wanted to rush and get him out but you just have to stay strong. I also read that if you put a ticking clock in the crate it simulates a heartbeat and they like that. Don't put anything soft in there unless he is already trained or he may pee on it. Good Luck.

Work on him sleeping in a doggie bed during the day. Possibly line it with one of your shirts, so it smells like you.

If you can get him to rest in the doggy bed during the day, then at night you have won half the battle.

At night, the second he gets into your bed, tell him NO and put him in his bed, located right beside your bed, on the floor. Every single time. NO playing or lovin or belly rubs, just NO and into the doggy bed.

I had the same problem with my yorkie and this technique has worked wonderfully. He still gets in with us some times, but he knows his bed is more comfy and right there with us.

some times people put an old time clock in the bed so he can here it tick. get him some stuffed animals. dogs are afraid of a coke can with some little stone in it, tape the top shut, it is light and can't hurt. i shake it and toss it at my dog when i want to make him learn not to do something. usually i only have to pick it up and he puts his tail between his legs. my dog is part chow part lab, is40 lbs, and still sleeps on my bed. don't have the heart to put him off.

get a cage for the puppy and put blankets in the cage as well as get a teddy bear and open the back insert a tick tock alarm clock and sew it back up (so you can still wind the clock) you will have to suffer through a few more nights of not sleeping however your puppy will get used to it after a few nights and will consider the cage his home :) The Teddy bear helps to keep him company and also the sound of the tick tock will calm him.

put his bed in a different room and close the door. Even if he barks just leave him there. Thats what i did with my cat and after a week he got used to sleeping in that room! Your dog should do the same.

Good luck

be strong and firm with him. The longer you let it continue the worst it will get. Make an association to the dog that sleeping with you is bad. Get a rolled up news paper and smack or if you think that is to cruel you can try a skirt gun or a can of marbles and shake it to scare him so he won't go on the bed. Close the door on him so he cant get in and if he wimpers go out there and smack him on the nose and say that is a bad doggy.

Usually new born puppied tend to behave that way as they misses their mum, plus the scent and environment has changed.

To kick this habit, you dont have a choice but to place him back into his baskets and even if he cry you will have to ignore him. (painful task, done this b4). You need to ensure he knows where is his sleeping territory and where is yours. Eventually he would understand. Please ensure his baskets have a comfy pillow and a blanket to keep him warm.

Good luck.
