Labs love to chew on everything. My Golden Retriever ate the bottom half of our Christmas tree several years ago including pricless, antique ornaments! You get frustrated 'cause you think you doggy proof everything and they still find stuff to chew on! Unfortunately, you often just have to wait till they outgrow the chewing. I would try sprinking that stuff that keeps pets away (I think they sell at Menards and maybe Petco) around your furniture. You don't want to spray it directly on it becaue it migiht ruin the finisihing. Also, try to catch them in the act and give them a stern "No". Buy as many big old rawhides (get the flavor ones if they're picky) and toys they can chew on and put them all over the place. Take them for long walks every day to kind of wear them out. They could be doing this because they are bored. Do you leave them home alone all day? If so, you may consider taking them to doggy day care atleast a couple times of week to alleviate boredom. Can you confine them to a room that doesn't have stuff that you mind they chew like a basement when you're not home. If so, leave out bones and toys and leave the television on so they don't get lonesome. Also, take them to obedience classes. They can adress the chewing issue which many dog owners face (especially Retriever owners). Just promise me that you won't lock them in crates all day like some people. People that do this claim their dogs are perfectly content and they may be well behaved but you know that they are depressed! Your best bet is to keep your dog active while you're home with lots of attention and long walks! You might also look into dog agility classes which is a wonderful way for you to learn to communicate with your dog and alleviate boredom! Good luck and remember, patience is probably the most important virtue to dog ownership.....

you can buy a spray at your local pet shop that you can spray on the furniture. If he starts to chew it will leave a nasty taste in his mouth. Also, the word NO helps. Whenever he's starting to chew things you don't want him to, scold him. DON"T SLAP OR HIT that will only cause aggression. Buy a large bone at your local butcher shop. Your puppy is actually teething!! By him chewing he's trying to get his teeth to come in and for some reason he chose your furniture. This may take a few weeks but don't give up. I even have stuffed animals for my dogs. Ones that don't have wiggly eyes or are filled with beans. Getting rid of the dog won't help the dog any. Your dad is just upset because he paid good money and worked for the things you have, it isn't a good feeling when it gets destoyed.

there are sprays available from pet stores that are designed to repel dogs. They often contain citronella which dogs really hate. You might also want to try pepper, chilli rubbed onto the legs. Also give them something else to chew (they're probably just bored or teething) like kong toys with treats stuffed inside. Peanut butter keeps em busy for a while but it's not something they can have all the time cause it's pretty unhealthy. Pigs ears are good but your dogs are quite large so you might want something a bit larger. Labs tend to demolish pigs ears really quickly. Fresh bones are also fantastic and will keep em busy for hours provided they don't just go and bury them.

You can pick up ALUM powder from the grocery store or a pharmacy which has larger quantities. You mix with water to form a paste then put on your furniture. Dogs hate the taste. After they are done teething, take away chew toys because they continue a habit of chewing.

Chew stop from petsmart on Doctors Fosters and Smith online. It doesnt smell and your dogs wont touch or chew anything that you spray chewstop with, including themselves. Dogs dont like this on there paws either so they wont sratch anything that has this on it
