I have a lovely, gentle old dog (collie/lab cross, on the small side). I'd like to get a cat. He's fine with cats and gets on with next doors. Do I need to get a specific gender, or breed of cat. Would a male/male mix be a bad idea? How do I go about introducing them to each other? Could there be any dominance issues or are they likely to be able to rub along together.

I guess I didn't give enough info. I DID take the puppy to vet. I also took back to breeder. But, what I want to know, is this...the breeder is trying to tell me, that in ONLY 1 week, that the puppy is well, and my Vet said it would be at least 2-3 weeks. Also, she said SHE SAW 1 LARGE WORM, SO NOW SHE WANTS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE PUPPY IS CURED, EVEN THOUGH SHE IS STILL SEEING THE RICE LOOKING STUFF. Is what she is saying true??? She is claiming that she saw a large tapeworm, one large 3 inches, and now thats it???? The puppy weighs only 2lbs, as it is a yorkie/shih ziu. I don't plan to get another, or one from her, I just want to know if what she is saying is true?? Thank you for your help everyone!!!

I purchased a new puppy, had him for 4 hours, and saw worms in his feces. I returned him to breeder, 1 week ago, and now she says she "saw" the puppy pass a 3inch worm, but she still sees the rice like in poop. I have chronic illness myself, and cannot risk him still being sick. But, he was a great little puppy, and if he is well, i would like to try again. But I was so icked out as well, that I NEED to know he is well. Can anyone PLEASE help me? Thank you!

How do you make new born puppys you know poo and pee? I heard you have to put some warm water on a cotton ball and whipe the genitals.

she is on medicine but this is now the 3 time in 3 months that this is happening. I wonder if surgery is really the answer. I hate to put her down because we love her so much. We are starting to be overwhelmed with the money she is costing us. We have kids that are gonna get sick soon with the weather so we will need money for them soon also so it is charge, charge, charge.?????

Hello! I've always wanted a Chihuahua, and with recent changes in my life, need/want a companion. My problem is that I live in a small apartment and work the "night" shift - from 7pm till 3am. This means I wake up around 2pm, have 4 hours then leave for work at 6pm, get home around 3:30am, then have 2.5 more hours of awake time and go to sleep at 6am.

Is this enough time for/fair to a dog? I can wake up and play with it/love it/walk it, but of course I also have to do regular stuff (shower/food/etc). Then leave it alone to go to work, and the upstairs neighbors are home making noise walking/running/dropping things. Then I can play with it more when I get home, but then it's time for bed.

Will it be ok with this? I don't want it to be upset or get bored or go crazy because it's alone and the noise upstairs. My situation unfortunately, isn't changing anytime soon. I love pets, and if I get one, I will definately pick up a training course to do it right! What do you think?

think that she knows that she belongs to me and that I am the one who loves her the most. I always bath her and care for her, put her into bed at night time but my mum takes her for walks in the morning and that is one of her favourite things to do, and she barks at the door all morning until she can go. My mum said that she thinks mum is her owner, I don't want her to think that. What do you think that my dog thinks?

I have a 2 year old chihuahua who is extremely attached to me and my husband ("daddy"). I love her to death but I would love to have another one. I'm afraid though she will be violent with a new baby in the house...do you think its too late to get her a playmate???

My dog just threw up red vomit, which I'm pretty sure is blood. She's been on prednisone the last couple of weeks for a back injury, and I've been giving her herbal supplements for what I think is kennel cough (I'm pretty sure she got it from the vet hospital a few weeks ago). It's the first time she's done it, and I'm wondering if anyone's had experience with ulcers in dogs and if the medicine she's on could have caused it. I appreciate the insight.

We are planning a trip to Las Vegas, but we are not sure to do with our dog. And we are not sure if any friends would be willing to look after our dog. But leaving him alone at home for 3 nights seems cruel. Any ideas?
