My dog just threw up red vomit, which I'm pretty sure is blood. She's been on prednisone the last couple of weeks for a back injury, and I've been giving her herbal supplements for what I think is kennel cough (I'm pretty sure she got it from the vet hospital a few weeks ago). It's the first time she's done it, and I'm wondering if anyone's had experience with ulcers in dogs and if the medicine she's on could have caused it. I appreciate the insight.

Vomiting blood is a regurgitation of blood from the upper gastrointestinal tract, which includes the mouth, pharynx, esophagus (the feeding tube that transmits food and secretions from mouth to stomach), stomach, and small intestine.
Prolonged and vigorous retching (may cause a tear in the small blood vessels of the throat or the esophagus, producing streaks of blood in the vomit)
Bleeding ulcer located in the stomach, duodenum, or esophagus
Irritation or erosion of the lining of the esophagus or stomach
Bleeding esophageal varices
Vascular malformations of the GI tract
Tumors of the stomach or esophagus
Esophagitis
Gastritis
Ingested blood (for example, swallowed after a nosebleed)
Gastroenteritis
Although not all situations are the result of a major medical problem, this is difficult to know without a medical evaluation. Seek immediate medical attention.
Dog Vomiting can be a symptom of a serious illness and a Veterinary Surgeon should be consulted if any of the following conditions apply or as the owner you are instinctively concerned about the health of your dog:
Condition has lasted for more than 24 hours
The dog shows signs of pain, breathing difficulties or signs of another illness or symptoms such as diarrhea
Blood in the vomit
Vomiting is projectile
Stomach bloating occurs

Get her to the vet now. I'm not a vet, but the Prednisone could be reacting with some of the herbs. Herbs are not harmless. They are used to make a lot of medications. There are certain meds Prednisone should not be mixed with, i.e. NSAIDS (non steroidal anti-inflammatories) such as aspirin, Deramaxx or Rimadyl. They can cause major stomach problems, including bleeding.

in case you have been vomiting blood, might you be on Yahoo solutions waiting to ensure what individuals inform you to do?? I exceedingly doubt it. i'm specific you would be extremely worried and could be heading to the ER. the comparable is going for animals! Get that destructive woman to a vet ASAP!

Yes ,the prednisone can cause bleeding in the stomach.You need to call your vet right away-and stop the herbs;they may be interacting with the prednisone-I'd stop that,too until you see the vet.

you need to take your dog to the vet!!!!!!!!
maybe it has swallowed / drank something it shouldnt of - or maybe your herbal tablets are interfeering with the other pills??
you need to seek advice - phone the vets for advice if you are unable to take it in now
