I guess I didn't give enough info. I DID take the puppy to vet. I also took back to breeder. But, what I want to know, is this...the breeder is trying to tell me, that in ONLY 1 week, that the puppy is well, and my Vet said it would be at least 2-3 weeks. Also, she said SHE SAW 1 LARGE WORM, SO NOW SHE WANTS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE PUPPY IS CURED, EVEN THOUGH SHE IS STILL SEEING THE RICE LOOKING STUFF. Is what she is saying true??? She is claiming that she saw a large tapeworm, one large 3 inches, and now thats it???? The puppy weighs only 2lbs, as it is a yorkie/shih ziu. I don't plan to get another, or one from her, I just want to know if what she is saying is true?? Thank you for your help everyone!!!

Yes the meds given will kill the worms. Now all you have to do is wait for them to get out of her system. Which may or may not take a few days. What your vet saw was the dead worms. And yes dogs get tapeworms from swallowing fleas so make sure that your dog is on some sort of flea treatment so she doesn't end up with one again. But yes your dog will be fine and free of worms in a few days.

Sometimes it does take one treatment to get rid of worms, however it more often takes a repeat treatment two weeks after the first one to completely rid the dog of worms. This is especially true in puppies. Your vet is correct and the breeder is mostly incorrect. Also in order ot have tapeworm the pup had to either have had fleas or to have ingested a mouse, mole or other such rodent.Sine your pup came to you with tapeworms that means he/she didn't come from the most reponsible of breeders.

My cat had a tapeworm. They are very small. I got the Medicine and gave it to her. It took a few days to work. And instructions on med. tells if you need to dose pet again. I got the med from a Tractor Supply store. They have it for dogs also. I never saw a large worm only he rice looking droppings. I think you are getting mixed signals from breeder. Did the Vet give your dog any medicine to get rid of tapeworm? If not I suggest you get it, and you don't need a prescription for it either. Can be bought on line also, but was cheaper at the Supply store. good Luck!!!

You took the pup to the vet....and we can only guess that they gave the pup something (hopefully cestex) to get rid of the tapeworms. With the proper medication to rid the pup of tapeworms, yes, it is possible she no longer has tapeworms.

Tapeworm is an indication that there is a flea problem... they get tapeworm by ingesting fleas. You might want to consider a different breeder

If you decide to take this particular pup or any of this breeder's pups, I would take it to the vet immediately, and get a fecal float done to make sure it isn't harboring other types of worms..

the tape worm is caused by the puppy biting a flea. the flea is the intermediate host. the tape worm is very long...it is expelled in segments, that are actually egg packets. they move kind of like an inch worm...that's how you can tell the difference from other types of worms. it should only take one injection of droncit to get rid of the tapeworms. all puppies should be wormed at 6-8 weeks of age anyway because they're usually born with worms they get from the mother. unless the mama dog was parasite-free. you really don't have anything to worry about, as long as the pup is treated for the correct type of parasite. don't get rid of your puppy just because it has worms...they're easy to get rid of. hope this was helpful.

I would get another opinion. Go see another vet and see what they say. Tape worms will certainly kill a small puppy. I have a Yorkie also.
