hernia...it's common. you should have the vet check it out though to make sure it doesn't require surgery.

It is probably an umbilical hernia-- before she was born, she got nutrients through her umbilical cord, which is arteries and veins that run from inside the puppy, out through the belly button (umbilicus), and to the placenta. At birth, the umbilical cord is broken, and the hole is supposed to close up. Sometimes if the mom is too enthusiastic about tearing the cord, she will open that hole too much, and it doesn't close normally, and sometimes they don't close normally for no apparent reason (could be a genetic problem). Sometimes they are just a cosmetic problem, but if the defect is big enough, a loop of intestines can drop through and get its blood supply cut off, causing a life-threatening surgical emergency. You should see a vet, and ask if it needs to be repaired immediately. If it is small and you are planning to have her spayed, just have it fixed then-- it is an easy and inexpensive surgery. Since she is only 10 weeks old, reduce it every chance you get (massage it gently until you push it back into the abdomen) and it still might close up. If it doesn't go back in easily, ask your vet to show you how. Good Luck!!!

It sounds like it may be an umbillical hernia but only your vet can say for sure. A hernia is a weakness in the abdominal wall where the internal organs can push through and form a pocket (bubble) under the skin. Sometimes it's minor and causes no harm but still needs surgery to repair the abdominal wal. Sometimes it can become a life threatening emergency called Strangulated Hernia where the abdominal wall clamps down behind the protrusion and cuts off its blood supply causing intense stabbing pain, trapped stool, gangrene and eventually death.
I'm sorry, I don't mean to scare you but it really is something a vet should look at.

This can only be answered by your vet. If it is a serious problem, I'm sure you want it taken care of right away. Good luck to you and your puppy!!
