I adopted two 6 week old kittens from the shelter 2 weeks ago. The boy started off at 1.8 pounds and is now up to 2.2 pounds. The girl started off at 1.4 pounds and when weighed today she was 1.2 pounds! My husband noticed the boy growling at the girl when there was little food left in their bowls, their bowls are split up and they are both fed twice a day. They were dewormed in the week before they were adopted and are due to go back to the vet next week. She is so small and the kittens play pretty well together but now that the boy has so much weight on him I am concerned about him hurting her. They are eating wet kitten food a can in the morning and at night I give them half a wet can a piece and some dry food mixed. He pigs out and she nibbles. I take him away from her bowl if I see him going to it. What other strategies should I use? Or might it be a worm? What are the signs and symptoms of worms? Sorry so winded...

I have a five month old cat, and right now, she's miserable from the heat. She'll only sleep on the tile or linoleum floors, or where ever there is a cool place to sleep. She is an indoor cat, and a longhaired one to boot. I only want to do this for summer, but since it's nearly over, I wonder if I should bother.

What's y'alls opinion?

We rescued an abandoned kitten (he is neutered - approximately 5-6mos. old now). He acts psychotic whenever he smells food or if there is prospect of him eating. You would think he was being starved! He climbs in the sink right while we are cleaning the table to lick the dirty dishes. When we open his food - he actually goes nuts! Help!

I have 2 cats, the newest is a purebreed kitten which I paid a lot of money for. I've had him for a couple months now and I just don't like him. My other cat despises him and I think that is influencing my feelings toward the new one because I hardly see her anymore and I love her dearly. I've followed all the rules on introducing kittens to existing cats that are available on the internet but she still wants nothing to do with him.

I've owned cats for many years and have loved them to death. I've fostered litters of kittens and found homes for them. I'm a volunteer at a local shelter. I'm really not a bad person but I feel awful about the way I feel about this cat. And I think it is affecting how I treat him although I try to give him plenty of attention. Someone told me that a cat can tell when you don't like him and I think this is probably true, but I just can't help how I feel.

What should I do? Please don't be mean. I feel horrible already.

I've never had a cat before, so I have a few questions...

First, why is she always spying on me? She hides somewhere obscure and stares at me... but doesn't let me see her if she can help it. There are times when she wants to be seen but a lot of the times she likes to stare at people without giving them the option to stare back at her.

Also, why does she like plastic bags so much? She's seriously fascinated with plastic bags... they're her favorite toy. I'm always afraid that she'll suffocate herself with those bags though, so I don't let her play with them unsupervised.

How often should I feed her? She eats a lot of small meals instead of a couple of big ones. I don't want her to get hungry so I feed her whenever she wants. I don't want her to get into the habit of eating when she's just bored, though.

And she doesn't meow/purr very much at all. Is that normal? She is so quiet that you don't even know she's in the room 98% of the time.

I have three adult male cats that unfortunately we couldn't afford to have fixed, and now it is too late anyways! They spray and one of them tries to get out soemtimes. We live directly next to an interstate where our last cat was hit and killed, so we are scared to take these PURE inside cats out to be roadkill. What can we do to keep them safe outside?? They HATE leashes and flop over like they are dead when put on them. My dad says that the electric fence/inivisble one would be stupid because they could escape it, but I think it's a good idea. Please help!!

We brought home a new cat today. She's one year old and the folks at the humane society described her as a "lover". I can easily believe this, since as long as we operate on her terms she will rub and purr and ask to be stroked for as long as we let her. The instant we make a move to pick her up, however, she becomes aggressive - hissing, batting (she has no front claws, so cannot claw us) and biting. She is healthy according to the shelter, and they did not give me a history of abuse.
I am sure that this is because she is uneasy in the new surroundings, and around my other cat. She's not been here 8 hours yet. But I would very much like to encourage the affection I see in her, and also be able to pick her up, at least to take care of such necessary things as back claw trimming or moving her from a room, without undue stress to her or injury to myself or my son. If anyone can tell me how to help her at least tolerate being lifted I would greatly appreciate it.

In January my cat was sneezing constantly and it got so bad that I was concerned enough to take him to the vet who diagnosed him as having kitty flu. He was put on antibiotics for 10 days. The vet said that they sometimes never get completely over the cat flu and that they would keep on sneezing. I had hoped that he would get better fast, but over the months it's stayed and while he is eating and playing and doing all the things cats do, he still has mucus coming from his nose, continues sneezing and can't breathe through his nose very well. It sounds like he has a blocked nose and when he licks himself it sounds like he is sucking on a lollipop.

I phoned the vet and she said all I could do was put him in the bathroom with the shower on so that the steam could open his nose.... I've tried that but it doesn't seem to help.

Is there anything else that I could do to make it a bit easier for him and make it better? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I got my cat around 2 weeks old and didn't know he was so young. He was a rescue... Anyways he's almost 3 mnths now and he is a phycho. He bites, slashes, jumps on tables, dashes around. I have tried yelling, grabbing the back of his neck, spraying water, slapping his nose and butt, putting him in a different room than me for awhile and still he keeps coming back for more. Is this normal or what. Also, for those of you who have cats and have had them your whole life, how should I greet them when I come home. Ignore or cuddle?

Thanks,
LokDog
