I've never had a cat before, so I have a few questions...

First, why is she always spying on me? She hides somewhere obscure and stares at me... but doesn't let me see her if she can help it. There are times when she wants to be seen but a lot of the times she likes to stare at people without giving them the option to stare back at her.

Also, why does she like plastic bags so much? She's seriously fascinated with plastic bags... they're her favorite toy. I'm always afraid that she'll suffocate herself with those bags though, so I don't let her play with them unsupervised.

How often should I feed her? She eats a lot of small meals instead of a couple of big ones. I don't want her to get hungry so I feed her whenever she wants. I don't want her to get into the habit of eating when she's just bored, though.

And she doesn't meow/purr very much at all. Is that normal? She is so quiet that you don't even know she's in the room 98% of the time.

Its a good thing about the spying and playing with bags - shows she is a healthy happy kitten who is active and likes to play. Rather than bags - because you don't want her to get in the habit you may want to invest in those little cheap crinkly cat toys. Part of it is the sound as well as the bag flopping around.

As for the purring - some cats don't all that much and are more quiet. The main thing is if she purrs when you pick her up and pet her and she is cuddly. Not purring doesn't mean she doesn't like you though.

About the feeding

as kittens grow they have different needs -

Age 3-5 Months: 5 to 4 meals daily

Age 6-8 Months: 3 to 4 meals daily

this doesn't mean you have to actually feed her this much, but what she will graze on. You can choose to give her some canned or fresh food once or twice - like a bit in the morning and a bit at night (like half a can in the morning and half a can at night - or tuna in the morning and canned at night.... etc) and then leave grazing dry food out all day - so long as she is eating normally. If you notice she tends to overeat as she gets older you can regulate her food more carefully and take away food during the day part of the time -

and of course make sure she always has fresh water.

Congrats on your new kitty!

cats are naturally curious creatures.. the old saying curiosity killed the cat? cats are natual hunters they like to watch and observe thier "prey" even if it is you.. she is still a kitten and is learning how to "hunt" it is perfectly natural for her to want to do this.
second it is probably the sound of the bag she is after. I started playing with paper gorcery bags or the cartons 12 pack of soda with my cat, he loves that just as much and no suffocation danger
third, go by the ammount of food for her weightper the bag. I take that ammount and divide it in half and give my cats half in the morning and half at night. this will allow the cat to eat small meals that she seems to like without feeding her too much and causing obesity
as to the purring, cats are just like people i tell people they are furry 2 year olds with a speech impediment. Some cats purr a lot, some meow, some whine at you, others are quiet. she may begin to purr as she gets older. I have a siamese that was that way, you couldn't tell she was in the room until she was about 2 years old, now that she is almost 12, you can hear her purr from across the room... good luck

Your kitten is probably not really spying, but more like stalking you. It's an internal instinct to stalk prey by watching them unseen from a far. One of my cats used to LOOOOVE plastic bags. Definitely do not let her play in them unsupervised.. even for a minute! The best way to feed cats, is to just leave food in the bowl all day, unless your cat develops an eating disorder and is overweight. I keep food out for my cats all the time and they take little nibbles of food through out the day. Not purring or being vocal is quite normal. Cats have very different personalities and some are very vocal while some are not.

She's just watching you, probably wondering what you're doing. And I wouldn't let her play with a plastic bag, maybe get a a loud toy for her and you should always keep food out, always keep dry food out for her. And that's normal about the not purring thing my cat barely purrs.

I really liked the part about spying, that really put a smile on my face. It sounds like your cat is pretty normal. I keep food out for my cat all the time and she just kinda eats when she feels like it. If you're concerned about having an obese cat, I would as your vet. I had to submit an answer to your question because you're cat sounds so normal and it's cute that you're concerned. Good luck and congrats.
