My girlfriend is moving to the East coast for college, but she can't take her cat with her. The cat's name is Slinky and she really adores it, so I grudgingly agreed to take care of it for her.

Here's the problem: this cat has the most raspy meow I've ever heard, and it coughs all the time. On several occasions, it has kept me awake at night with its coughing and raspy meows. I asked my friend who's training to become a vet to come check the cat out, and it turns out I would need to take it to the vet and pay for surgery to fix the problems it has. Now, I have a lot a things I'd rather spend money on than some stupid cat, so I decided it was time to get rid of it.

I drove out to the woods and hiked a fair distance away from the road. Then I put Slinky up on a tree branch so it couldn't follow me and went home. However, now I'm feeling a little guilty. I know there's no bears in those woods, but coyotes do live there. Do you guys think a cat could survive in the woods like that?

We named her one thing (Yoko) and it just wasn't sticking, because as her personality came out - it just didn't fit...

you can see her here: http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=637410918&size=m
she's a little bigger now :)

So now we are thinking....

Volta
Blitzkrieg
Luna
Berzerker
Bagheera
Kali
Umba
Boo
Chaos

She's quite spunky even for a kitten one minute then will be a total cuddlebug the next. :)

my cat was just sick where she would eat moch of anything
and then we took her to the vet (he did tests and they all came back good) and now she is better, she is eating and being herself.
but I don't know how to tell if she is drinking or not.
If I put a bowl of water in her face she won't drink it.
but we are pretty sure she is drinking but I would just like to make sure and check
so do you guys kno anyway of finding out if a cat is not drinking or if they are dehydrated?
thankss

Really isn't a question but to see if anyone else has any insight or expereience. Last week cat had surgery to fix broken leg. A rod and pin in the femur and wire mesh around the bone. She's been walking on it & gets better each day. Today I went to give her her meds. She doesn't like it but handles it fine. I bent down, petted her & gave meds. As soon as I finished she got up, hissed and growled loudly at me, which is new. She was holding her back leg up which she hasn't been doing & didn't even do when it was broken. She walked on 3 legs &tried putting pressure on the back leg but it seemed wobbly so she held it up. I slowly approached her to look & she wobbled under bed. I guess my question is, surely she didn't break it again, right? Maybe it is just stiff & sore? I have never dealt with an animal with a broken leg. Right now, I can't get to her to take her to the vet. I can't afford another 1k to fix it. Could she have broken the rod & pin? Any ideas?

A week ago we lost 1 of our 2 cats (brothers), to kidney failure. He is buried beneath the lilac tree under the bedroom window. They both spent many hours on a perch built for them overlooking that tree.
Now my remaining cat spends all his time looking out that window right at the grave and meows pitifully. He seems fine when with us away from the window, but meows loudly alot during the night. Is he missing his brother? or just the companionship ?
Any thoughts on his staring at the burial spot? Do cats sense things?
We just feel so bad for him and try to give him lots of attention and affection (which he loves!)

My cat has allergies, and is on steriods for them and has to have hypoallergenic food. He cant eat fat cat food, so his weight has been a constant struggle.

Two weeks ago I let him taste my cantelope and he is hooked on it, so he gets a little bit of cantelope a day, between feedings when he is determined he HAS to eat something. He gets 3/4 cup of his food a day, spaced out three feedings.

Since he started on the cantelope he is losing weight ! And is more content, less yowly - and he loves it.

Does anyone else have a cat who likes fruit? He used to eat banana but he gave that up for cantelope. The vet said there is no reason not to give it to him.

He also likes squash and broccoli stems, steamed.

His name is Challice, he's 4 at first it was an occasional treat and everything was fine. Soon enough he began stalking the upper cabinet I keep it in, whining and scratching at it. Now he's completely running my life! I try to limit it to every now and then but when I refuse he howls, meows and zips around my small apartment (and me) making my life subject his mercy.

I know some of you are going to say "just ignore him" but it's not that easy after working all day and just wanting to relax in a quiet home. If I wanted to deal with this I would've had snotty, whiney kids. I also don't want to exclusivley use treats as he's already "slightly" overweight (22lbs). I don't necessarily want to ban his drug of choice from the house all together as I love him and want him to have a vice to break up the monotony but he's driving me nuts! Suggestions?

It seems like several times a week I find a dead animal on the floor at the bottom of my bed. There is nothing worse than crawling out of bed and steping on a dead bird. I dont want to make them indoor cats. I know they think they are doing a good thing by bringing me presents but its starting to get really annoying. My question... Does anyone have any tips to break this habit? Thank you for your time.

My cat has been laying in my bed for 2 days now and only comes out to eat and go to the bathroom. This is not like her, shes normally running up and down the hall playing with the dog. I used to feed her can cat food but i stopped for a month and a half. We'll i started feeding her can food again this week. Do you think it's just upsetting her stomach, should i continue feeding it to her. Im getting worried about her.

in an adjacent building in my complex, there are 3 neglected cats. there is the mother and her two kittens. all cats are kept outside only, have no collars, are invested horribly with fleas, and are rarely feed by the owner. the mother and the girl kitty are not spayed. the mother should be going into heat again and will no doubt get pregnant. then the kitten will be going into heat in about 2-4 months and will also become pregnant. i asked my landlords if i could have cats and they said no. i have found out about spaying but for both cats it would be over a hundred dollars i don't have and i know the neighbors won't spend. i can't take the cats either because the neighbors know i want them so if they go missing they'll know i took them. i just want what is best for the cats. what do i do?

my 12 year old female cat had a stoke about half a year ago, afterwards she seemed fine and has been her usal self for the past six months, however she was just on the table playfighting with her brother and she fell off the table and seemed to lay there with her back legs shaking uncontrolably making a crying noise for about 5 seconds, i had to have another female cat of mine put down a year or two ago she used to have uncontrolable fits but her whole body would shake so im a bit confused as to whether these are fits or not. my dad said shes had two this past few weeks but its only when she jumps off the dinner table her back legs seem to go and shake, is she having a mild fit? or could it be her back legs are on the way out... im going to take her to the vet but i just wanted to get some opinions and advice . thanku guys. x
