scoopable litter looks like sand. if you got the regular litter you need to dump all the used litter in a paper bag, scrub the litter box out, then refill it. if you want to switch to the scoopable make sure the container says scoopable. it usually comes in a plastic bucket.

Crystal Litter DOES NOT clump. :) The crystals absorb the moisture in the urine as well as the feces. I use an automatic litter box that uses only crystals and there is no moisture left behind to clean up. I do not use the clumping with crystals which is what I am guessing you were using. I am guessing that the clumping would be around the fecal matter and the urine would be absorbed by the crystals. It might help to know what type of litter you actually bought.

I've never used a crystal litter, so I don't know about it. However, I stopped using regular litter a long time ago. For me, the clumping (scoopable) litter is so much better. If the liquid waste accumulates in the bottom of the pan, the only solution to that is......dumping the whole pan every few days, and washing it out. Then refilling it again. That is the main reason I stopped using regular litter. It's just cleaner and more convenient to use scoopable litter.....Tidy Cat makes one, Fresh Step makes one and my favorite is ....Scoop Away Scoopable. Good luck.......

the kitty litter that is crystals does not clump. it absorbs the urine and neutralizes its odor. with just one little kitten it should last for at least a month--if you do notice it starting to smell before that, then by all means, dump it out, wash the pan and refill it. in the meantime all you have to do is scoop out the little poopies-- it is really good stuff-- i loved it when i tried it. it is more expensive than regular or clumping litter, but with just the one - shouldn't be a problem. i wish i could afford to use it--but with 6 litter boxes and 9 cats the cost is a little prohibitive for me. congrats on your new baby!!--------dogs have owners-----cats have STAFF!!!!!

it doesn't sound like you got the scoopable or clumping litter. i have used a few differnt kinds, but have recently found the stuff that clumps the best is Scoop Away. Fresh Step & Tidy Cats clumps, but seems to fall apart too. the scoop away has been great so far.

i dont think this clumps. if the urine didnt clump up in the litter than no it doesnt. u should get the clumping stuff. and a litter scoop. we use this and we scoop it once a day and we change the litter once a week. it really saves on litter expenses. but seriously clumping litter is a lot easier to clean up.

Clumping litter is great for cleaning and odor control but you should be wary with using it with kittens and older cats as the dust can give them breathing problems. Paper based litter may be a better option....

Maybe you didn't buy the clumping kind. It should say specifically on the label, "scoopable." I use Tidy Cat scoop (for multiple cats, immediate odor control), and it's awesome.
Good luck and enjoy that kitty!

Try a clumping kind like Tidycat clumping formula. If you use a non-clumping kind you will just have to scoop it the best you can.

Try using oil dry. Its used to clean up oil spills but it makes a great cat litter. We've been using it for years. Its usually found in Sams.
