That is not a problem. Your 'problem' is solved. You cannot have a cat - at least not at this time.

When you are an adult and have your own place and pay your own bills, then you can have a cat or even two. We can't all have everthing we want, at least not all at once! Part of maturity is learning patience; learning to wait and knowing that the right time will eventually come some day. So enjoy the stage of life you are in while you are there. One thing I've learned over the years is that change is inevitable. I think back now and realize instead of daydreaming about a large house, I should have enjoyed the little cottage-style home I had. It was so cozy. Because after 8 years, I DID get the larger home. I enjoyed that too. But I could have enjoyed and relished them so much more.

People and things and events are with us for only a short time. Enjoy what you have while you have it. Your lifestyle will change soon enough. You don't give your age, but what if you got a cat and then had to go off to college in a few years?

So the word for now is "NO." Don't keep nagging your family. They can't help it if they have allergies.

Find a friend who has a cat and spend some time giving their cat attention. I'm sure the cat will love it. Or volunteer your time at the local animal shelter or rescue group. They would LOVE more help! Just be sure and shower afterwards and change your clothes so your family doesn't get sick.

With THAT many respiratory ailments in your family - the best your going to be able to do is get a hairless cat (which looks kinda freaky).

How about a rabbit?? They're just as cuddly and they shed a lot less and aren't as likely to set off everyone's asthma and allergies.

Do you all have allergies to cats? Or just allergies in general? Have you all been allergy tested and determined to be allergic to cats?

If you are allergic to cats, when you are older and have your own place to live, you can get allergy densensitization shots to reduce or eliminate your allergies to cats. Unless your whole family wants to go through this, you'll probably have to wait. And it may still be a problem for those in your family that have asthma, so I think you'll need to wait till then.

I think you are out of luck - bringing a cat home to a family that is not able fully interact with the cat is not very fair to the cat, but most animal shelters are always looking for volunteers - that way, you can get your cat fix, and not have to worry about upsetting your families allergies.

It sounds like a cat is not a good pet for your family. You probably wouldn't be able to do anything with the cat, and it sounds like you all would be just miserable all the time. Perhaps you should select a different pet, with your parents' permission.

If everyone in your family has allergies to cats, then you shouldn't get one. Your family's health should be more important than your wants. Sorry.

Try a sphynx. They're hairless. They look kind of funny at first, but once you get used to them, they're kind of cute. They are just as nice as any other cat as far as being affectionate and despite being hairless, they are still very soft and nice to pet.

No cat for you while you live with them. It would be selfish for you to expect them to suffer with ASTHMA so you can have a cat. Whenever you get your own place, get as many as you want.
