i have two cats...... one male one female...... if i get the famale spayed
will the male still be able to mate with her without problems?

it is always possible but not likely.... female cats put out feramones that attract the male felines when they are in heat... if the female is spayed there is no scent.... making it unlikely

Well it could be he wants to mate with her since he is following her around, that makes sense. The female might not be used to other cats being around, she will calm eventually.
