I like Katz-n-Flocken much better than Royal Canin.
here are links with ingredient lists for both....
Katz-n-Flocken....
http://www.solidgoldhealth.com/products/showproduct.php?id=4&code=130
First two ingredients are MEAT!! Then rice then more meat...Not bad .... =)
Royal Canin Indoor....
http://www.royalcanin.us/catfood/indoor.html
Here you have meat, rice, corn, corn gluten....and it goes downhill from there....
If you're open to suggestions here are a couple of others to check out....
California Naturals Chicken and Rice....
http://www.californianaturalpet.com/products/default.asp?id=72
Meat is only first two ingredients but they use very few ingredients and no "weird stuff"
OR Chicken Soup for the cat lovers soul....
http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/products/cats/dry_food/adult_cat_formula/
This is what my cats eat and they do great on it. It's also one of the least expensive premium foods on the market.
I hope that this helps....good luck!!!

If you're looking at the Indoor 27 on the Royal Canin then yes, the Katz-n-Flocken is better. However if you're looking at the Royal Canin Siamese 38, that would be the better choice between them.

The numbers on the Royal Canin indicate the protein levels. The Siamese 38 is used quite often for diabetic cats who absolutely need high protein and low carbs. It leaves out a lot of fruits and veggies unnecessarily added in to a lot of other cat foods -- things like carrots, potatoes, apples, blueberries, etc. are ok for dogs, but cats can't digest a lot of that and it only raises the sugar levels.

One thing the Katz-n-Flocken doesn't appear to have is rosemary extract, that's used as a natural preservative but too many cat foods are putting more and more of it in, it travels up the ingredient list higher and higher, and there are cats who are very sensitive to this (and cats sensitive to guar gum too), which can break out in horrible hives till they're taken off the food and given something else with the rosemary extract further down the list.

You can check with Evo and Wellness for balanced foods, but those are higher priced. I'm guessing that you're looking for a lower cost dry food and want good quality? See if you can find the silver bagged Wysong foods in your area. The only one I'd give to mine out of all the types Wysong carries is the Vitality which is about 38% protien and has a good selection of ingredients. They leave out the dyes so the stuff looks dull brown, but it's backed by some good nutrition and the bag costs $8 (feeds a cat for a month).

My guys didn't like the California Natual at all, and while I did like the Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul ($9 a bag) the food was very hard for the cats to chew and has that X shape that can get caught in the roof of a smaller cat's mouth (panic time for the cat).

FROMM has a food called Go (it has two dots over the 'o') which looked decent in ingredients. That was a black bag with a big green oval I believe, on the front.

Check ingredients. There should be no byproducts, very little corn, three meat sources should be in the first five ingredients, and there should be very few fruits and veggies in the list. At least 35% protien (cats need this much).

I did a lot of dog food research recently and I can't remember the specifics of why, but I remembered being very unimpressed with Royal Canin and Solid Gold is excellent! I personally feed Nature's Variety, but I would have no problem feeding Solid Gold (especially the Barking at the Moon variety)
