we went to the doctors for her checkup, she was acting fine this morning, but when we came home from the doctors she has not been the same. the doctor seemed to pay alot of attention to her kidneys pushing on them and feeling them. i am wondering if so much attention was put on the kidneys if they were damaged or inflamed by the doctor. when she opens her eyes a white film is in the corner of her eyes, and she seems really tired.

We just got a new kitten! I named him Itsel. Do you like that name? Also any ideas on how to help my 14 month old cat Bubba (who is neutered) get used to him?

I got a one yr. old tabby female from the SPCA a few months ago. Took her to the vet for a checkup. She has very foul breath and also a horrible smell in her infected ear. The vet told me to get lysine for the ginigivitis...(he didn't mention cleaning). Also, he said I could give her antibiotics if the ear was bothering her. He thought the ear problem could be an infection or a polyp. She seems perfectly healthy otherwise. She doesn't seem to have ear pain...but the odor is awful. Also, I have been doing the lysine but have not noticed a difference. My vet didn't seem too concerned about this. What should be done for her? She's a young cat now..but it could get worse as she ages. I feed her only dry food and sometimes tuna juice when we open a can. She also sometimes scoots across the rug. Should I get her worm treatment? How do you know whether it's worms or just anal glands? Thanks for your help...I have had other cats, but this is the first one I've had with these problems. Thanks!

in the past two weeks two of my young cats have had a parasite and i want to know what this thing is. I was lucky enough to remove the things myself but i need to know what they are.

The parasites in question are short fat worm things and they burrow under the skin making a large hole in the skin. I was able to nudge them both far enough out of the hole to grab them with one of my husbands computer tools that i push and three prongs come out to grab things. I put antiseptics on the wounds to fight infection but i'd like to know what these parasites are to do more research on them

Also while i'm at it what does it take to become a veterinary assistant and maybe eventually a vet. After dealing with these problems and having to keep these cats calm i'm seriously considering a career in veterinary care.

We have just got a tiny new kitten and have followed all the guidelines about keeping her isolated, switching scents on blankets, etc.

My existing cat (1 year old neutered male) seemed curious and relaxed about the whole situation, and we thought things were going well.

Tonight we put the kitten in a cat carrier and allowed our male cat to see her for the first time. We thought he would curiously sniff, as he is an outgoing and friendly cat, but he hissed about 20 times whilst staring at her and slowly approaching.

Can someone please tell me if so much hissing is normal or a bad sign? Also, what should I do next? I'm worried about scaring my new kitten!

I think my cat has worms again--he loves to hunt squirrels, mice birds, snakes and rabbits. How often can you give your cat praziquantel ( the tape worm medicine)--also do I need to give him round worm med. too? Or without knowing if he has it or not, what is the recommended dosage for felines on a yearly basis?

Thanks!

I've noticed that if I rub a certain area around my kitten's hip, it'll fall over sideways in a relaxed state, and begin to purr loudly. Have I discovered something new, or is this something cat owners have always known?

I adopted two females last year (one Siamese and one Tabby). They were living outside in the cold, and not getting much to eat. I brought them inside, and fed them.
Then made a room for them to sleep in, with a nice, clean bed. They have been well taken care of for about the last 9 months in my home. They were pregnant, and had six kittens altogether. We gave three of them away, and have three left that we plan to keep. But the mommas have to go. We just can't afford to feed them anymore. Local animal shelters have no vacancy, and I'm afraid the Humane Society might just euthanize them, as they are a bit skittish around strangers. What can I do?

Seriously, I will wake up sometimes with a mouth full of hair. Or I will start suffocating in the middle of the night and wake up to find this tremendous weight on my nose. Why do cats do this? I tried sleeping on my side and it doesn't matter. Sometimes even the neighbor's cats break in through the basement and sleep on top of me. What's the deal?

My mother passed away 6 months ago. I inherited her 4 cats. Two of them are brothers and they just turned 7 years old and aren't much trouble. The other 2 are around 15 or 16 and have problems. Both older one have lost most of their teeth and are very dirty. I have 6 litter boxes and the older ones go anywhere but in the boxes. I clean up about 5 pounds of kitty doodles each week from under sofas and behind other furniture. There are probably wet spots too that I don't know about. The house STINKS! They have literally runied the carpets in the house and probably the floors underneath. But I feel like I would be betraying them and also my mother to have them put to sleep for these reasons. They really aren't very sick considering their age. I'm in a quandary here - I need an impartial opinion or advice.

We have tried evrything to stop her escaping but nothing works. Sometimes we put the dog in the crate and let her walk around till she gets tired but that cant be a permanent solution. So what do i do?
