Yes, they use the same things for cats as they do people.

BUT!

PLEASE DON'T GIVE YOUR CAT AN ENEMA!!!

Unless you have experience, you could seriously hurt the cat. Even kill it.

I worked at a vet clinic, and it's not as easy as it seems.

First, you need to find out WHY the cat is not having a bowel movement. If the cat has ingested something (like string!) it could be causing a blockage, and no enema in the world can solve that. The blockage may be high in the intestinal tract.

It could be diet, and in that case, you need to re-evaluate the feed they are on and take the proper steps to adjust them to a new feed.

What ever the case may be, only your vet can tell you for sure. Never take medical issues into your own hands when it comes to animals, always consult a vet.

Oh, and not to take away from anyone, but just because someone states they are a vet tech or a registered vet tech does not mean it is the same as getting information from your veterinarian who actually can exam the animal. Case in point, there are at least three answers here from 'vet techs' and they all have very different answers.

Good luck, schedule that appointment as soon as you can!

I can hardly get my cat to sit still for a nail-trim, I can't imagine what he'd do if I tried to stick something up his ***.
Call your vet, he'll probably recommend some kind of stool softener or have you bring the cat in.

This is a question I actually haven't heard before. As an animal caregiver I would sugguest consulting a vet before trying this. If done wrong it could hurt your pet & I know you wouldn't want to do that.

This depends on how young the kitten is....you need to be careful. Sometimes, under a vets supervision, a small abount of warm water can be given to help pass the stool. I have done this in the past with kitten that I have bottle fed, but it is definetly better if you can get them to go on their own. You should check with your regular vet to be sure though.

I wouldn't. That doesn't sound like much fun. Give mineral oil instead orally. Or even add canola oil or something like that to it's food.

You realyl need to call a vet. You don't want to damage your cat for life...that would be so painful. Talk to a vet, please.
