Two males will tend to get along very well. For some reason, unrelated male cats tend to adjust well and live together with no problems- my two little men are best friends! A male and a female are kind of a crapshoot. Since the male is older, introducing a female kitten would probably be fine, but trying to introduce an older female might end in disaster. I've seen some male/ female pairs that got along great and others that never got along, even after years. And yes, they can fight! Like hissing, spitting, yowling, scratching, fight. It is not fun.
If you are not opposed to it, maybe try a male kitten?

Well, is the boy cat fixed? Are both cats fixed? If they are, then they will most likely get along great. If the male cat is fixed, than you more likely than not have any problems. (I recommend fixing both cats any way) But there is the slight chance that they will not like each other. I had a male cat and a female cat and they pretty much avoided each other. But when I got a male kitten (they were all fixed) We had BIG problems and had to get rid of the female cat. It really deepens on the cats personality. Just like humans, some like each other and others don't. But because the kitten is still young, you will probably not have any problem at all.

If they are the same breed or any breed that would go along well with each other then I would say yes, even though I do not think the male cat would think it was his sister. I know how hard it is to deal with past away pets, and I know you are nervous. But maybe the male will mate with the female in a couple of years and you might have a new family to take care of!
Good Luck With Your Decision!

I have a male and a female cat. They live with my parents now but when they lived with me they got along. My male cat would chase my female cat around the house. She might not have liked it much but they were also nice to one another. She was a kitten when I got her and he was probably 6 years old. So I think you will be ok. They would just have to get used to each other. Good luck.

As long as you introduce them to each other gradually they should be fine. The best way is to kennel the new kitten out in the open so that the male cat can get used to having its scent in his territory. After a day or two, I would introduce them by hand for a few moments a day. After about 2 weeks, the new kitten should be able to roam freely without you having to fear harm from the male cat.

I was in the same situation as you are several years ago. I consulted with my vet and he suggested a female as a companion to my male cat. (Both were fixed). He did suggest that I get a kitten since an older cat is less likely to adjust better to a kitten and it is not in their instincts (the older cat) to hurt a kitten. It will take time for them to adjust, especially the older cat, just give it time.
Hope this helps!

Yes, it will be fine. It is always easier to introduce a kitten to an established house. We introduced a kitten after we had adult cats. The adult cats accepted the kitten in a few days.
I hope your male is fixed. Otherwise kittens will come quickly.

Well a lot of cats don't like strange cats at first. You should probably keep the new cat young or old; away from him until they gradually get use to each other. Don't leave the kitten all by himself with the boy until he is use to her!!

I believe they will! Introducing a kitten into the household shouldn't be too hard. It never was for us. Just a bit of hissing going on at first but w/in a week they were fine!
