I've noticed that if I rub a certain area around my kitten's hip, it'll fall over sideways in a relaxed state, and begin to purr loudly. Have I discovered something new, or is this something cat owners have always known?

My cat loves to be rubbed under the chin and around the face. She just purrs so loudly and waves her tail.

Its the sciatic nerve - at the spot where spine meets tail - most cats like being rubbed there, and will lift their rumps in response. Have fun. Want to become a cat expert?

I think most cats have a "sweet spot" as I call it. I have one cat that will lay down every time I scratch her shoulder blades. And one cat will give kisses every time I scratch under her chin near her breast bone.
