Cats - January 2007

I always place my cat outside in a crate to socialize with the dogs. I have 3 full blooded German Shepherds that cannot stand the cat. They hate all cats.

My friends and I think it's kind of funny when we put the crate outside and the dogs do everything they can to get to the cat. The cat screams bloody murder as the dogs try and get to her, rolling the crate down the hill, gnawing at the crate and basically trying to kill her, and the cat is shaking violently once I bring her back in and want even let me comfort her no matter how hard I try.

Does she not like the dogs? Am I going about this the wrong way? Why want she let me comfort her?

We have a 1 year old cat, who while thinking he is part dog half the time is otherwise healthy BUT he is always trying to "nurse" off any kind of "furry" type blankets! I pull them away when he does this but he always goes right back to it, esp. at night. Anyone know how to get him to stop or why he may be doing it? He makes me feel so bad for him like he misses his mommy or something. thanks for any help!!!

and he sucks on us as though he is nursing! how do we get him to stop?

we have tried thumping his nose lightly, and telling him no it doesn't work

even when we push him away he just comes back and tries again!

we also have his sister from the same litter and she is normal (if there is such a thing when it comes to cats)

Help! How do I keep my cat off of the table and doing other things she shouldn't? I clap my hands, yell "no" and have even gotten a little squirt gun. (My cat, it turns out, loves water and is impervious to the squirt gun.) I do give her lots of attention, so I don't understand why she has to do things that she knows she shouldn't do--eats food from the table when we're not looking, dumps over the trash, tries to pull the tags off of our clothes. It's almost like it is fun for her to do bad things! She is about 8 months old.

She was sick ,throwing up the day before so we thought she was sick but she all of a sudden delivered this premature kitten ( the ears weren't developed yet )yesterday evening scaring my poor 12 yr old son and my daughter. She had stopped eating and everything yesterday before this. She is now up and around eating, drinking etc. It's 2 a. m. now and this happened around 7 p. m. while I was away. Can she continue pregnancy? We are in a small town and vets are not available this late.

I have a kitten who, despite our best twist-tying efforts, loves getting into our apartment fireplace through various cat-means. He's completely white, so it's pretty obvious when he gets in there--but my problem is... how do I get the soot off?

I've wiped him down with damp paper towels and baby wipes to no avail, haven't (and probably won't... gah) tried bathing him. Last time he got in was about three weeks ago and you can still see the marks it made, so I expect it stains. He just got a fresh coating of soot today.

Any ideas/similar situations, or should I just wait for it to fade from his fur?

We have a big 3-year old pussycat who doesn't wash herself in certain areas (ahem!) and we can't figure why. She's not sick or anything and her appetite is good.

I've had the fish a long time, nearly as long as the cats. It has never been a problem before, but this week one of the cats knocked over the fish bowl shattering it. I save the fish but now they try to get it where ever I put it.

I have a family cat who loves to eat and be pet
Recently she had decided to drag the litter box out of the room and spilt it on the rug
This is the first time she had done so, and had similar cases in the past where litter-covered waste had been found out of the litter box
I want to put a stop to this immediately, before the litter spills on the rest of the carpet.

Can anyone suggest why she would do such a thing?
Can anyone also tell me how I can properly train a cat?

My kitten just got spayed today and the vet advised me not to feed her until tomorrow morning. I realise I should have ask why not, but maybe someone on here could tell me. I feel bad having to lock her in her bedroom because I have another cat and a dog and I can't just hide all their food too. Could someone let me know why she shouldnt be eatting? And what would happen if she were to eat.
thanks

My 4 year old cat appears quite healthy, but I just noticed that she seems to have a little bit of hair loss around the opening to her ears. Could be from scratching, but I am not sure.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

she has been doing okay for the past few days. surgery was a week ago..and vet says to use a special cat litter during the first week. i changed the litter to the stuff i used prior to surgery..cuz i thought she was healed. she had no bleeding or scabbing or anything. well..today..after changing the litter she went in ..did her business and i didnt notice til a little while ago that she now had some bleeding on the pads of her feet and now she has the litter grains stuck in it. i dont know what to do? i already changed the litter back to the stuff recommended by the vet...apparently i needed to keep using it for longer then i thought. someone please help. i dont want her to get an infection.
