We have a big 3-year old pussycat who doesn't wash herself in certain areas (ahem!) and we can't figure why. She's not sick or anything and her appetite is good.

Is this a new behavior? Any change in behavior that is on a negative side, could be a sign of illness.
Take her to a vet.

Has she always been this way? She maybe was not taught how to wash her self completely. I once had to raise a litter of kittens from birth. None of them learned to clean themselves. No, I was not going to lick them clean. I had to give them baths.

You may need to just get some 'diaper-wipes'.

Take the kitty to the V-E-T for a check up. Maybe they can help you find out what is going on

Licking is very effective, and the cat knows that!

If this is a new development, take her straight to the Vet.

Lazy. Hurts her to bend that way. Too fat?
