They are both furry, warm blooded mammals who are domesticated household pets.

They aren't really related at all. They went down separate evolutionary paths 10-15 million years ago.

They keep pushing back the date when dogs made their connection with humans and were domesticated. I think it is now accepted to be over 10,000 years ago. Dogs of course are descendents of wolves. The cat was "domesticated" by the Egyptians at around 5,000 years ago maybe and were never as closely bonded to humans as dogs were. When humans started to farm and store grain the cat became very important in keeping the rodent population under control. Dogs were useful in helping humans hunt.

You can find more accurate information by going to wikipedia science and searching under "evolution".

There are species, genus and other words which come to mind. What is a mammal? And if you like the cartoon cat-dog, you will still find the same answer to my question.

A cat is much more highly evolved than a dog... it's like comparing humans to monkeys!

depends on if you believe in creation or evolution. honestly they aren't unless they live in the same household, then if you want to believe they are brothers and sisters, or whatever. a cat is a cat, and a dog is a dog. what are you trying to ask?

They are furry... well they aren't really related but maybe once ages ago there was a canine-feline animal which adapted and made 2 different animals canine strand and feline strand. Though I'm not sure about that though loL!

They both are:
animals (as opposed to plants or bacteria)
vertebrates (they have a backbone)
mammals (have hair and feed young with milk)
placental mammals (carry babies inside body as opposed to laying eggs)
carnivores (meat-eaters)

and that's as close as they get.
