Try having a water spritzer near you so you can squirt her in the face

The problem with the world today, There is a major lack of consequences....
How does a living animal (Human or not) know they are doing wrong when there is no consequence to there action? Especially an animal! When i was young and got my hand caught in the cookie jar (figure of speech) i got a smack on my hand. I never took from the jar again.
To many pet owners and parents end up just repeating themselves over and over again. Sorry, doesn't work in my book.
I know the difference between abuse and discipline.
Next time your cat jumps up on the computer, do it a favor and let him or her now that this is a NO NO. yes you can put post it notes to deter the cat but that does not teach it to listen.
If it was my cat i would give it a firm tap on the head followed by a firm "NO". This will happen a few times more then you should only have to say a firm "NO" until it understands which could be fairly quickly.

So why don't you just leave her there? My cat sleeps on top of my monitor every time I get on the computer. Sometimes I have to lift her head up a little to see if she happens to be in the wrong spot. I think its hilarious and not something annoying. The bottom line is she wants to be where you are. Feel flattered.

The only real solution to this is to shut her out of the room while you're on the computer. She's showing typical cat behaviour, they always seem to like to be involved with whatever you're doing - mine likes to walk all over the newspaper while I'm reading it! She's got you well trained - walking over your computer keyboard is a guaranteed way of getting your attention! Either ignore her completely, find something else like a toy that will occupy her instead or keep her out of the room.

My cat does this all the time; she just wants to be around you and get a little attention. Put a cat bed or a special blanket she likes on the floor next to you. Hopefully she'll find that more comfortable than trying to settle down on the desk where you have your stuff spread out and are trying to use your mouse.

Yep This is a common thing. one of my cats Daisy ,likes to sit up high and nestles down on the scanner..we have a pull out desk top for the keyboard so when she comes down for attention she is always on one level higher and not the keyboard level itself. can be a bit awkward tho when TJ decides to sit in front of the screen and watch the cursor move...not good for the screen!!! >^..^<

Millie isn't bothered shes too busy sleeping. cats like attention and being with people( well most of them)

What exactly is wrong with letting the cat sit up there? Our cat used to do that until he got a bit bigger, and my husband changed to a flat panel monitor.

Otherwise, I would just let her stay there. Once she gets too warm, she'll jump down.

I do squirt water at my cats if I really think it's necessary, but I don't think that's a good idea around a computer!

Well then don't bogart the computer all day-and-night long. She needs a little online time as well, what's wrong with you? You think all those catnip, bad dog, tuna and kitty porn sites are going to bookmark themselves?

She's looking for you attention. When you set her on the floor, give her a treat. Soon, she will associate the treat with being down. However, cats being cats, if she wants your atention she will keep trying to get by ant means possible. Much of the time mine is in my lap or I'm typing one-handed because she wants help. Perhaps a place near or on your computor for her to lie on while you are busy might help. She wants near you and you are giving the PC more attention that she is getting.

This is easy:

1.All cats hate the smell of citrus, buy some febreeze, viola!

or

2. Buy a flat screen Oooooh! Pretty!

Just love the cat, it's all it wants is your attention. Set them on your lap, eventually they'll learn they get your affection on your lap.

To the person who said about the dryer, it's not recommended. I had a cat who got into a dryer once, and the outcome wasn't pretty, not to mention a VERY SMELLY holiday. Nothing will cover that smell.
