I am not in any way interested in breeding myself, but I have a question. When looking at various cat and dog breeder sites I see something they call Line Breeding and backcrossing. Isn't this inbreeding and if so why don't these animals have health defects.

About a month ago, my grandpa came over with his dog and right when my cat saw the dog, he peed on the floor and jumped onto the counter top and started hissing. Now, even a month after the incident, he jumps onto very high places in my house and walks around on them, sometimes even sleeping on banisters that are 20 feet from the ground (my house has a high ceiling). The other day, he jumped onto a high window sill, got to the end of it, and starting meowing because he didnt have anywhere else to go. I had to get him down myself. Sometimes he knocks over vases and pieces of art. What can I do to stop him from climbing around high places in my house?

My friends cat has a serious issue. He licks off his fur.
He usually does it on his tummy, but has started doing it on the back of his legs and on the base of his tail. He doesn't have fleas and his skin seems healthy, I am thinking it is a nervous thing. (started doing it when he got fixed last year).
He is about 6 years old, in great shape other than this licking thing. I am trying to find a solution I used on my cat when he did the same thing years ago, but can't find it. It was orange based, I put it on my cat and he hated it so much he didnt lick anymore, and it broke his habit.
If any of you out there know of any solutions (available in Canada OR online) to put on a cat to stop excessive licking, please let me know asap!!

This has been a chronic problem since I have owned my cats. They are about 4 months old, and I have brought them to the vet twice for this. They were checked twice for worms, both times negative. Still, I was given oral meds to give them for the often occuring worms, and then went back a second time and they were given a pill for tapeworms. While I "think" one has stopped scooting, but I just saw the other cat scoot. I asked the vet about anal sac issues, and he said they were really too young to have those issues. Any other relevant facts...hmmm, neither one of them is stellar with cleaning their rears (they left their mother too young and I don't think that they were taught to clean themselves). I end up washing their butts for them (yuck). Anyway, I need some help because I just finished steam cleaning my carpets and I really don't want to have to deal with this on a regular basis.

My cat Ariel was spayed on Friday morning. It is now ~1:30 PM on Sunday, and she is still under the weather. She is barely mobile, and will not eat or drink. She did wobble over to her dishes but I haven't observed her drink. After what time lapse should I begin to worry if she doesn't improve noticeably?

Our five month old kitten named buddha has taken on a new level of kitteness. He constantly expects me to play with him. If he doesn't, he will be a stinker cat ... climbing, riping around the house and BITING me and my husband (something new and happening a lot!)

I play with him three times a day for 10 minute spans.

I vary his toys and try to get him to play on his own, but he will drop toys at my feet and meow like crazy ... so we play and and the vicious kitty cycle continues.

He is a bengal tabby and I got him from our county's animal services. We are first time owners ...

He hasn't been fixed, yet ... hopefully this week.

I love the little fellow, but he is turning into MONSTER BUDDHA!

Any support or help would be great. Thanks much!

She is pure bred but not registered or papered so I do not need a papered or registered stud to breed her to. I will give you pick of the litter or pay a fee. The Himalayan stud that I was using is no longer available. She is a good mother and has beautiful, friendly kittens. I have all the kittens health-checked and spayed/neutered before I place them in pre-screened homes.

A friend, which recently and still may have bed bugs asked me to watch her cat while she's away. Is there risk of transfering the bugs to my house through the cat?

I've had all my cats since they were kittens, none of them has ever had anything bad done to them with plastic bags. Why then do they all run away in terror when I empty the bins or get a carrier bag out to go shopping? Does anybody know?

my nextdoor neigbours cat got hit by a car a couple of nights ago. our cat and theirs where bout the same age (1 almost) and they got on so well, kind a like girlfriend and boyfriend. it was cute to see them together. She was the most friendliest cat who loved people who she new and who she didn't know. We all miss her as she was always over at our place playing with our cat or trying to get in our front door! do you think our cat has noticed? he is inside at night more since. but he plays during the night and wakes us up. how do cats show that they know whats happened and that he'd be missing her, if he is??

As it's gone so cold out now, he's really not keen on going outside full stop - let alone to pee! And he's totally got into the habit of going indoors. But I don't particularly want to spend the rest of my days cleaning litter trays out!! Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!

I woke up this morning to find a big pile of catpuke in the living room. in it was a lump of plastic from a toy of some kind he'd apparently eaten then thrown up.

i couldnt find him for a while, when i finally did he was sorta lethargic like he'd been sedated. his eyes are clear and he's acting normal except he's "hiding" and seems more lethargic than normal.

i was going to watch him for a day and see what happens, anyone think of a better solution on how to test if he's ok?

should i be worried about this? anyone with vet skillz would be encouraged to respond.
