Cats - January 2007

In college, I had a professor who owned several cats. He said he had taken in a kitten who externally appeared to be male, and also acted like a male. But when he took the kitten to a veterinarian, the vet told him that internally cat was actually a female.

I was wondering if anyone else had ever heard of that condition before, and if they had what would it be called.

Thank you.

i have a 10 week old kitten that I adopted from a rescue. He hasnt been eating very much so i brought him to the vet and they gave him saline injections, as well as some antibiotics- called claramox to take- although they said to give him the medicine on a full tummy. He ate a bit in the morning--so he got the medicine...but hasnt ate anything nor drank any water for the rest of the day....Im worried and dont know how to get him interested in his food. Anybody with experience have any ideas ? we love him and want hiim to be healthy!

One of my kittens front paws has a split nail. It doesn't seem to be hurting him but I'm afraid to cut it down because it appears to be broken right down to past the quick. It looked like there was a little bit of litter stuck in there, and I want to stop that from happening. Anyone know how to fix this?

The cat doesnt cry, only licks it constantly, it has popped or "went down", he wont let anyone near it to look at it, but after it seems to have liquid oozed out, a day later , the huge lump is back, but bigger, i have a dog and 2 cats, but i do keep the animals seperated until i can get to a vet. now I do realize that is what must be ultimately done but i was just wondering what it could be , if its something fatal , contagious , to prepare myself for a huge vet bill or not..and if someone was wondering why i took it in in the first place is because not only do i love all animals but it had obviously been attacked or abused, and had very little life in his eyes. He may have been abandoned because he is so lovable, plays so friendly, eats well, sleeps alot and lets you cradle him like a baby, rubs his belly, w/o biting. Is there a home remedy i can do until i get him to vet?

My cat is a pure white male (non albino). He is already been castrated and is coming up to a year old. He's the only cat and is raised inside. I would like to know if this peeing everywhere, as well as the litter tray, is behavioral, gentic or maybe a condition. And what I can do about it?

my cat has a strange bump/growth on her right front paw. Looks like almost detariating around pad and smells really bad.She just started limping and tends to hiss after jumping from high places due to the unplesent feeling. From time to time she also has a swollen bottom or top lip.She always eats regular and seems to tough it out.lip condition only last approx a week.Same with the paw seemes to go away and return. When i first got my little girl she had a small bump after birth that seemed to go away aswell after time.since this, other cats in my house have also had bumps and sores on paws that have come and gone

OK, first of all, I just called the animal emergency place so I have spoken with a vet, but we decided to wait until tomorrow, because the problem *seems* to have resolved itself - at least for now.

I was sitting watching t.v. when my 9-year old spayed female kitty walked into my view. She seemed to lose control of her back legs and began wobbling. She tried to jump off the table and collapsed. Then when she started walking again, she was wobbly and disoriented. I caught up to her and she had just collapsed. I immediately called for my husband. I told him to take her to animal ER. Now, during all this, she recovered and became completely normal - all within the space of a minute or two. I called animal ER and they asked if there were any poisons she had access to. We have a child-proofed home, so no.

Since then (maybe 10 minutes ago), she has completely gone back to 100% normal. Here's more:

1. We have a male who attacks her time to time. Not much tonight though (more cmng)

I've been using "Snuggle" Dryer Sheets to de-static my cats when the shocks get out of control. They've been so bad this winter that I can hear them crackling when they walk. The dryer sheets work wonderfully for a few days (I can even pet them without causing them to flinch!).

I just do a quick rub down with a sheet along their back and up their tail. Those are the worst areas of static for my guys.

I just wonder if there's any health risks involved? Since it is a perfumed chemical I'm putting on their fur, and they inevitably will lick it off. Does any body have any thoughts or alternatives?

p.s. The Humidifier is on it's way! :)

Why is she doing this ? Is it the operation ? The meds ? ( She's taking antibiotics and pain medicine) Is she mad because I force pills in her troat twice a day ?

Hello all !!!I have a 8 month old Male Cat, who is neutered. And my problem is he crys all the time!!! And he's been doing so for about 3 months now. If I give him attention and play with him for a while it keeps his mind off the crying so he stops for a while, but as soon and you return to your normal activity, here comes the howling. He gets lots of love, food, and I do play with him. But I can't play with him 24/7 So anyone have a clue whats going on???Help me with my sissy boy!!!

My cat (9 years old) has sneezed a few times in the past two days. She's never sneezed before and I was wondering if I should be worried? She's not sneezing a lot, maybe about six times that I've noticed in two days.

She's a house cat, doesn't interact with other animals and other than a few sneezes, she seems absolutely fine. She's not off her food or anything but I just read a few posts about cat flu and now I'm worried.

She never leaves the house and I don't want to take her to the vets if it's not necessary because I don't want to take her near any animals who might actually pass something more serious onto her.

Nothing's changed in the house so I don't thinks he can be allergic to anything. She does have long hair though and that might have irritated her, it sometimes gets in her eyes.

Will taking her into the bathroom when the shower's running help? I read that somewhere.

Thanks!

I'm going to try and explain this the best I can. Ok, we have around 15 or so outside cats, 1 of them, Tom, is really mean to the other cats and is protective over the food and sometimes won't let them eat. Anyway, lately, I've noticed a few of our cats have been losing fur. Under 1 of our cats, almost all of the fur has fallen out..and his legs are losing fur, too. Another cat, a female, is getting really skinny and losing some fur. The others are all pretty fat. We don't know if the mean cat, Tom, might be fighting with them and keeping them from eating and stuff or what else could be causing this sudden fur loss and weight loss (in 1 cat)... Other than those two things, they all seem fine. Though, tonight, we brought them all inside and two of them were covered in snow so I don't know if that might have something to do with it, too...Also; we have dog houses outside that the cats use, but again, I don't know if Tom might not be letting them into the dog houses. Help, please? =[
