Does simply yelling "NO!!!" when he does something wrong (like getting up on the dining room table) make any difference? Can I spank him? Put him in his crate? Help!

I tried when she was a kitten but she just wouldn't do it. I gave up and taped it open for her (I know, this was probably a bad idea, but I have a bad back and couldn't keep bending down to teach her how to go through.) Now the weather is so cold that I want to close the flap and teach her to use it properly. I have thrown treats through it, gone round the other side and tried to coax her through with treats or toys, shown her how it can be pushed open, tried holding her and leading her through, but she just struggles and is scared. What else can I do?! I can't understand why she can't learn this! She's very intelligent in other ways. I am trying leaving it closed now, hoping that necessity will be the master of invention, but it makes me so upset seeing her looking longingly outside and not able to get out. I don't know how long I can harden my heart for!

I brought a new ragdoll kitten home on Saturday (20th) afternoon. He has is still a bit wary and jumpy, but on the whole has settled in quite well. He hardly ate for the first 24 hours he was here and to my knowledge has not drunk any water yet, even though he knows where it is. He finally used the litter tray on Sunday (21st) night - and he peed a LOT then. He's used it again since but has yet to produce anything - ahem!- solid. He goes and sits in the tray and does all the usual scratching etc, but then he starts making soft mewing noises and then just gets up and walks off. And as of today (22nd) he has not achieved anything!
Is he constipated from not drinking enough and if so, how can i get him to drink more?

PS: There is "Royal Canin" dry food left out for him (and a bowl of water) and he has a kitten wet food pouch morning and evening. He is 5 months old.

He's an outside cat, so he gets into fights, but he's gotten scabs from being scratched, and it causes his fur to stick together. I've tried to brush it out, but it didn't seem to do any good.

Hello all
Tinkerbell is 7 months old and my baby, I love her to pieces......I didn't like cats before but now I love all animals..........got an offer to start my Nurse training in September, which I have been waiting a long time to do and is my dream, but can't take Tinkers with me for the first year as I'll be in uni. accomm. Now I've got a cat, I can't even find a new room to move into as nobody wants a pet in their house! Even if I can find a family or friend to look after her for a year, they won't want to give her back and she probably won't recognise me and it will be stressful for her. I could not stay in uni. accomm. for the first year and try and find a house that accepts cats, I can't bear to leave her, even for one night! Just wanted to know if anyone has been in this situation, or had any ideas. Thanks

I have a kity around 2.5 years old.. she is not a very social cat. Does not liked to patted or held very much. Go to pat and will sit for a few seconds then turn and bite and scratch.. then run away. Standard behaviour. She will not sit with anyone, and if people come over she hides under the bed.. for the whole day! Any thoughts on why or if there is anything I can do to avoid. She is treated like a queen and loved very much.

I have an older cat (16) that is several states away with a friend. She can no longer watch my cat (Fritzi), so I have to have her shipped by air here. There aren't any alternatives. Fritz is healthy & active. Has anyone had experience shipping cats by air & did it seem difficult for the cat?

Is it a normal procedure? I feel like I don't want to take him, I'm afraid he might not make it. Is it normal for me to feel like this? Is there a possibility he might die from this?

I want to know how to keep the dog from harming my wife's cats and I also don't want him chasing them either, when he starts to get older. Also will he kill my dads sheep or calves?

I had a cat, for 13 years - he was an indoor kitty. But he got out of the house in about early 2005 he was gone for a whole night. When he came back he appeared to be ok, until we noticed some lumps a few days later on his back end. After a while the bumps popped and puss came out. We took him to the vet that night, he had got bit by 2 cats. :( My poor little baby. We got that fixed but a few months after that he started getting very very sick. Throwing up his cat food. He would hibernate in the bathtub and just lay there, he was losing a lot of wait and fast his eyes were kind of pussish he had like guk in his eye and they were kind of sunk into his head, so we took him to the vet and she only felt his belly but said it felt like he had tumors in there and should put him to sleep. They did, but I never felt comfortable with it. Maybe cause there was no proof, I knew he was sick and either way it was best to put him down but I wish I knew what might of truly been wrong...
