I had a cat that was abandoned by the mother at a very early age; it took him a long time to learn to purr. He finally figured it out after being around my other cat for about 3 or 4 years.

I had him for 10 years; I lost him last June to cancer, and I miss him a lot.

The next time you are petting her and she is in a calm and relaxed state try putting your ear gently up against her chest and you should be able to hear her purring. I've never seen a cat that didn't purr.

I have 2 cats that are brothers from the same litter....1 meows a lot and purrs very softly I have to hold my ear up to him to hear it or put my fingers on his neck to feel the purr...

my other cat who hardly ever meows, has a massive purr that you can deffinatly hear through out the apartment.

maybe your cat is purring but you just can't hear it.

My mother had a cat that would never purr for HER - but purred for anybody else.

She might develop her purr when she gets a little older. Don't stress too much about it.

does she enjoy being pet and cuddling? if so, while you are petting her and she seems very comfortable, touch the front of her neck to see if it is vibrating.... if so she is purring, just very very quietly.

but I did have a cat when I was younger who rarely ever purred... it was once in a great while... but he was still normal in every other way. But one day he got out and we never saw him again :(

some cats purr very quietly. I would suggest you try to get your room to be as silent as possible get you kitty near your head and do what ever makes it happiest you might discover it just purs very softly.

Our cat was the same. But her purr actually appeared when she got middle aged and has become louder and louder!

Her purr could just be very quiet, use a stethoscope when you scratch under her chin, you might hear something.
