Hi there...tapeworms need to be treated with Praziquantel which can be prescribed by your veterinarian. Most over the counter dewormers tend to be not as effective at treating intestinal parasites and some have been noted to be very lethal for cats.

When my cats had tapeworm, I gave them "Tapeworm Tabs - Praziquantel" by Tradewinds. I bought them from Petsmart for $25.00 (small bottle with 3 tabs). There are instructions on how to administer the tablets. For my 15 lb cat, I think I used 1 whole tablet. For my 8lb cat, I think I gave 1/2 tab - I forget now. But You wont use more than 1 tab for an average weight adult cat. Oh, PetCo sells the same bottle for $19.00 - just saw some on the counter yesterday when I went to buy cat food.
These tabs were approved by my vet.

You need to see a vet for this, he will prescribe something that will most likely help, dont get anything from stores that are not prescribed, alot of the time store brands dont help, you need to see how bad of a case of tapeworms your pet has first.
