I am planning on buying a baby/young manx cat soon. What would be an estimated annual cost to taking care of one?

If there are no medical or emergency issues, taking care of a cat will cost lets see:

1. Canned food top quality average 85c per can and 2 cans per day = $1.70 a day = $51.00 per month = $612.00 per year

OR Canned food mixed top quality and med quality

85c per day + 35c per day = $1.20 per day = $36.00 per month= $432.00 per year.

2. Top quality dry cat food average $18.00 a bag x 1.5 = $27.00 a month = $216.00 per year

3. Mixed Dry and Canned wet cat food (Best diet in my opinion)
$25.00 /mnth wet food
$18.00 dry food
= $43.00 per month = $516.00 a year

ADD Kitty litter at average $8.00 a bag x 2 = 16.00 per month = $192.00 per year

so food = 516.00
+ 192.00
-----------------------
$708.00 For and ADULT cat

For a kitten... perhaps half to 2/3 of this figure depending on the breed

annual vet check up: $30.00
shots (rabies and distemper): $80.00

First year: Spay/Neuter = anywhere from $30.00 to $150 depending on where you have it done

The first year for me was the most expensive, with the shots and the neutering and then my kitty had the flu. Now I am up to the once a year vet checkup. As far as an annual cost that just depends on where you live and what your vets charge for health care. Of course, there is also litter and food which depends on which brands you choose and where you shop. I am a faithful believer in using quality food as I have found that my cat eats less on such a food. I usually shop at Pet Smart and use the Tidy cat litter. I buy the 40 pound box and purchase only when on sale so I always have fresh litter on hand, plus I don't have to shop weekly for litter. Some vets recommend buying food for one cat in smaller bags so it does not go bad. I feed a strictly dry diet and also give my kitty cooked (without spices and salt) chicken for a treat. I wish I had an exact number to give you, but I estimate I spend approximately $300-500 per year. I do have to watch though because I have a thing for buying extra toys for my kitty. Good luck on your Manx. I have read that they are a really friendly and loving breed.

Hmmm... good question. Well if you are getting a kitten (under a yr) and do not have basic supplies from owning previous cats, it will cost a little more the first year. Things you only need to purchase once or twice would be a litter box, collar, bowls, cat bed, carrier, toys (although I can't go into a pet store without getting my cat a new toy, hee hee). For an adult cat the vet bills should be around $100-$250 a year, assuming the cat is healthy. You need to buy food, litter, and maybe a prescription like Revolution. I think you could do it for under $400 a year.

You will find yourself wanting to buy a bunch of expensive stuff that your cat really doesn't *need,* but that's up to you. My cat is extremely spoiled and has a 6ft tall cat condo, cat beds and fleece blankets everywhere, a ton of toys, treats, and even a cat stroller because she loves getting fresh air at the park. Yes, I am a crazy cat lady! My friends think I'm nuts because I turn the heat up to 74 and leave the lights on for my cat when I'm at work all day.

Well good luck and enjoy your new pet!

I spend about $2 a day on food. This is dry food for grazing and a can every night, with a special indoor formula to prevent hairballs 3 times a week. About $20 a month on litter. I have no idea about flea treatment as we don't have them at my high altitude. For a healthy cat, maybe $120 a year on vet visits. Though my vet is a family friend so he might give us discounts. Plus lots of toys! So i'd say between $500-$800 a year.

I just bought a bunch of toys for my kitten because I work all day. I also got her a kitty condo that costs like $90. I know I AM CRAZY! I don't even buy shoes for that much. I just love that little fuzz ball and want her to be happy when I am at work.

With liter and food , not to much, maybe $250 or so. depending on the food you buy. (plus vet visits)

Not counting the vet I would say about $200.

When you add the vet and maybe a bunch of toys it could reach $300-$350.
