We all miss her as she was always over at our place playing with our cat or trying to get in our front door! do you think our cat has noticed? he is inside at night more since. but he plays during the night and wakes us up. how do cats show that they know whats happened and that he'd be missing her, if he is??

Cats can and do show emotions. I had a large 17 y.o. male tabby named "Tiggy' that I had to give to my mom when he was 16 because the landlord didn't like him (hissed/growled at them etc.) and told me to get rid of him. Well my mom had 3 cats at the time who he ignored (he hated nearly all other cats) and after he arrived 2 more kittens came, they were rescued by my parents. The male kitten, later named Trix, was interested in Tiggy. At first Tiggy didn't like him but eventually he warmed up to him and they began to sleep together, play together, etc. Tiggy also went outside but just to sit on the porch (he was too fat - over 25 lbs. - to move far) and Trix would cry for him and look out the front door for him. Tiggy died from kidney failure a few months after Trix arrived.

That was over 3 years ago and to this day Trix still occasionally looks out the front door for Tiggy. Sometimes he'll go outside to look for him, something he normally doesn't do. He goes around the house looking and once he sees Tiggy's not there, comes back in looking sad and dejected.

He probably has missed her. We cut down our cat's favorite tree and he just sat on the stump for weeks.

Your cat might be trying to find a playmate to take her place (you guys).

Cats show their emotion in the way they wag their tails, the way they hold their ears, and the noises they make
