I've read that after handling pet birds like pgieons, chickens, etc...you should wash your hands throughly, why?

(no jokes please)

thanks!

This morning I woke up not only to the first day of school, but to my little brother's pet parakeet dead at the bottom of its cage. The day before it seemed fine. It was chirping away like always, but I did notice it sitting at the bottom of the cage puffed out. That was the only weird behavior I saw. In its cage it's laying there with its eyes open and it looks like the claws are tucked away under his feathers. It looks like he just fell off the perch to me, but does anyone know what could've happened to him? Any strange bird diseases I should know about? There were barely no warning signs.

I have 6 pairs of parrotlet breeders. I have seen mice in the room where I keep them just feasting on the seed that falls to the floor. Is it safe to put poison out since the birds are always caged? I really want to get rid of the mouse problem and I don't like using traps. I wasn't sure if fumes from the poison are an issue, or if it is just the concern of a mouse eating the poison. Please let me know. I really want to get rid of the mouse issue! I hate them!!

Recently we obtained a new parakeet friend to join our other 4 making it 5 (we have seveal other birds conures, paroletts, cockatoo). Anyhow it is a true albino parakeet which I have looked for yrs for, even has the pink eyes. My question might seem dumb but do you think the sun hurts his eyes? I once had an albino horse and someone told me the sun was painful to his eyes (I dont know if this is true or not). This bird was vet checked and is not ill, its hand tamed, eats, drinks, climbs the cage. However alot of the time during the day its eyes have been closed or it goes to the bottom of the cage. Also the other 4 have basically shunned it to oblivia is this normal just part of the "pecking order" until they are ready to allow him into their "flock". Its been awhile since I introduced a new bird to them so Ive forgetten can you refresh my memory pls.

Thanks

I think our old man of about 10 has had a stroke, one side of his body does not appear to be working, he cannot get off the bottom of the cage, and is making a lot of noise.
Is this a trip to the vets to get him put to sleep? Or will he recover?

I have a male chicken (It's about 3 1/2 months old) now he bites very hard when I walk by. He bites other people too. He has been nipping my feet and legs since he was about 1 month old and back then his nipping wasn't hard enough to hurt. But now he bites me very hard and it hurts. A few minutes ago he grabbed the flesh of my feet four times. The fourth time was so hard it left a small bloody wound. Why does he do this- and what should I do? I also have a female chicken. It's the same age as him. She doesn't bite people. (I'm not sure what breed these chickens are. The chickens are white. When they were babies they were yellow. I received them from a friend when they were about 10 days old. They said they got them from a farm)

ok I went away to a sleep away horse camp for 2 weeks...my dad was the one who fed them while I was gone and to my horror I found out he was only feeding them seed. I only use the seed for growing sprouts for my keets to eat with their cooked veggies!! Before i left they were on a diet of Lafeber pellets, nutri berries, and cooked veggies and fruits. My dad after I left just let my keets be seed junkies for 2 weeks !! i guess i forgot to tell him pellets not seeds. uggh will my keets be hurt by this??? I gave them pellets right when I arrived back home.

I found an injured dragonfly outside (can't fly; although it seems to be moving all of its wings.) Is there any way to do anything for it? Or will it probably just die eventually no matter what [what is their lifespan?]
