You just got him a few hours ago? Give the poor thing time to adapt. He's in a strange place and everything is new. He will eat and drink when he is ready. Just attach the cuttle bone to the side of the cage in one spot, and don't keep moving it. When he sees it is not going to hurt him, he will approach it. All these things take time with a new bird. I know it's hard, but try to be patient!

Did you just get him a few hours ago??? Your parakeet is behaving completely normal. When I brought my tiels home they did eat or drink much for the first week. It's probably not a good idea for you to be putting your hand in the cage so soon either. It's great that he came out to you but you are only adding to his stress. Just sit back and talk to him for the first week, he'll adjust just fine.

Good luck!!!

Parakeets wean at around 5 weeks and if you don't see him eating he may have resorted back to wanting to be handfed. If you don't get it for him he could die. But make sure he has millet seed. That is the seed on a stalk. Some times you think they are not eating and they are when you are not looking. Try feeding him some cooked rice, or a cooked veggie like corn and see if he eats that.

Your bird will eat, drink and use the cuttle bone when it needs to. It is good that your bird is already finger trained. Keep playing with it and it will always be tame.

he is sorta probably stressed out. he is in a new place he has never seen before, so thats probably why he isn't eating or drinking. just give him a couple of days and he should be acting perfectly normal, if not then i think you should consult a vet. my bird did this exact same thing and he was just stressed, so it is definately perfectly normal. Glad i could help!!! : )
