Are you quite sure that he is only 3 weeks old? Are you sure that it is a cockatoo and not a cockatiel? A three week old cockatoo would still require hand-feeding, that alone will create an intense bond. Do you have any prior experience with hand -feeding? Please research the subject well because mistakes can end in tragedy. Make sure you also get some advice on the weaning process which can be tricky with the larger parrots especially emotionally needy ones like cockatoos.

Are you sure you don't mean cockaTIEL? They're MUCH different. If you have a 'Tiel, I would find a local breeder (or the one you got him from) and find out how to wean him. It's not terribly hard, but you want to use the same method he's used to so that there isn't a lot of stress. If you have a 'Too, three weeks is NOT weaning time yet. Sometimes cockatoos are on hand feeding formula up to a year! In this case, you REALLY need a breeder's help! If you have a cockatoo, I suggest joining the "cockatoos" yahoo group. We're all people who have gone through this sort of thing before and we love hearing about other people's birds-especially babies! You also don't have to worry about asking "dumb" questions because we all have stupid questions at one time or another. That's part of the fun.

I'm not an expert, but I can tell you to give the baby a lot of attention--hugs, kisses and talk to him. Pet stores, or a veterinary can advise you the best. Good luck!!!

Make certain it has always a clean drinking water with vitamin mixed with it and never overfeed the parrot.
