I'm thinking of hand raising a pigeon and I might be able to get an egg from a friend of mine the next time I go to CA. As far as an incubation source goes I have an adjustable desk lamp with a 20 watt bulb that gets to be about 90 degrees. Would this be warm enough to incubate a pigeon egg or would it be too low?

I'm also concerned it would be too warm and accidentally 'cook' the egg. But if anyone can give me a good answer that'd help. But would the temp cause a problem or not?

would like advice, thanks!

I have never seen one like this before. It looks like it could be a shore bird, although I see it at our community 3-hole golf course greens, about 3 miles from the Pacific in central California It is slim, has long legs like a shore bird, looks a lot like and is the size of a plover. Except it has a long white neck with a narrow black ring in the middle. And has a yellow beak. The back, wings and head are grey, the underside is off-white. It seems used to people and walks slowly along the short grass seeking grubs. I have only seen it for a week and have not seen it in flight.
I have searched my bird books and googled but see nothing just like it.

His companion just died and I have no idea why. They both looked fine just the other night. I live in Temecula and the weather has been pretty cold lately. But the parakeets have been inside the house and they were fed with plenty of foods and water. I just don't know if I should set him free or get another parakeet for him. I really feel sorry for the little fellow, but would he be all right out there if I let him go?

I've got budgie chicks and I want to know how to make a good handfeeding formula without buying one just in case the budgie mom stops feeding.

What do we do, Get another male or leave the female to do the parenting? Since the male died she has stayed in the nest since this morning and not eaten or drunk for over 12hrs. Am not sure weather she is waiting for the male to do his stint like they did before. Will she come out and feed as looks like she is concerntrating in keeping the eggs warm as she is on her own now? This is her 1st batch and am not sure how many eggs there are. She is in a nest box in a large cage.
All answers would be appreciated and noted. Thanks.

Kind of an odd question. I know birds are loud by nature. Well, my budgie is making sounds that I can't distinguish as being loud, or actually disturbed by something. The sounds are not just loud, many times they sound panicked, or perhaps angry. Instead of loud chirps, he'll go into frantic screeching, which usually accompanies running across his perch, and occasionally flapping his wings, almost like he's in a tantrum. I try to understand this behavior, and have done everything from turning my music down, or even completely off, typing quieter, giving him a lot of attention, and still he persists. Even if it's totally quiet, he'll screech and scream sometimes. I've heard budgies are not REALLY loud birds by nature, so I cannot understand this behavior. Does this sound like natural behavior, or does it seem like there is something bothering my budgie? Comments would be appreciated, especially from bird handlers who may have experienced this type of behavior before.

My parakeet is about 8 months old and is now tame. I have tried ever since I have got him to eat foods other than seeds and he just will not do it. I have read that dipping the food in seeds will get them used to it and will ease them into eating other foods, but it did not work.

I found this cage at PetSmart and my question is...
The decription says:Top opening allows your bird on top of the cage to play. Does this mean the top opening is ALWAYS open? Or can you open it and close it whenever? Here is the pic of the cage. READ REVIEWS!!!
