Hey,

I Take it this keet isnt hand reared then as otherwise you'd be able to handle it,

You may never get to hand train your keet, he needs to be willing also,

Keep doing what your doing - offering him food by hand his favourite treat, also just sitting there with them and talking will help build up trust, it see's your hand as a new thing, but more than anything a threat, you need to get him to realise that its not going to hurt him,

Its a long process, after a while of doing the treat/talking thing, try offering a finger to the chest and tickling, once uve managed to do this a few times on his head and chest try lining your finger up sideways on his chest and gently pushing him back, he should step up,

But like i say it does take time, rushing into it will just do nothing, Also when trying to tickle him go slowly with your finger,

Someone is bound to come on and tell you its best to use a towel and just hold him in it and handle him, or wear gloves or something stupid like that! That is not the case the bird will be even more wary of you then, and more afraid and the hardwork you have done so far with the treat thing will be lost.

Goodluck

Well, let's see. Offer the millet by hand and use a key word. Repetition is the key. Your hand should be outside of the cage for this. After 3 days, open the cage door and let the bird come to you using the treat in hand and the keyword. The keyword will become a signal for the bird that a reward is at hand. This may take a little longer. When this is accomplished, offer a hand held perch using the treat and keyword. After this is mastered like a week or 2, offer your finger using the same method. Time and lots of patience. You might take one step forward and two steps back at first. Talking to birds like using baby talk helps. This bribery method works and is a great lesson in patience.Good luck and have a tweet year.

You are off to the right start with being able to feed the bird millet out of your hand.

If the bird's wings are not clipped, take the bird to have this done. It will help greatly with training.

Then proceed with feeding and letting the bird come out of the cage in a bird safe room with few distractions.

Start with teching the bird to step-up either on your finger or on a stick/perch. If you start with the perch, then proceed to your hand.

First off, look above the bird's bill. If it is brown, then it is a female, a blue bill indicates a male bird. Males are far easier to train than females. You might try a dimly lit room. Always approach the cage slowly and speak softly. If the bird flutters try not to react and jump away. Continue with your approach using a finger and nudging the bird under his/her belly. One day when you least expect it, the bird will just snap! and become more friendly. Parakeets are very social animals and training takes time and patience. Also, if you have more than one bird, you might want to separate them as training with two birds is much more difficult.

Well its good that your hand feeding it millet and millet spray is a nice tasty treat for them but try this:

Try put your hand a little farther away, that way he will have to hop on your hand to get it. Every other day put it a little further and sooner or later he will get to the point that you can pick him up, no problem.

another method, along with the treats, just sit by the cage with the door open, and let it come to you.

and, while doing that daily, put your hand closer and closer to the cage, inches a day (first day, a foot, next, 11 inches, so on and so on)
fairly soon, your hand is just draped in the cage. this should be done for 15 minutes a day, 2 times a day.
eventually your hand becomes another thing. hopefully after that, it'll tame up quickly.

and may I invite you to here

Not all parakeets can be hand-fed. My parakeets go crazy when they see a hand touching the cage or go near it. Try buying a parakeet guide book. Maybe that will help.

Clip the wings and play with him the same time every day. Don't give up. You must gain his trust. Let him bite you don't pull away or make noise. Good luck.

You should do it every day and try whistling to him/her which will calm it down.
