My daughter's bird really loves them but she is concerned about the possible health issues. Any suggestions?

People stress WAY too much about what to feed their birds.

My birds eat what I eat. I don't give them an overabundance of anything, and I always take their size into consideration when I give them something.

You can't give your bird avacado or chocolate, and that's pretty much it. Otherwise, what is good for you is good for him. What's junk food for you is junk food for him. You wouldn't sit there and eat 10 pounds of potato chips, so take that into consideration when you give him potato chips, along with his size.

You want to give him a treat, give him a treat. LOL Jeez!

Consider this: What's safe for you is pretty much safe for birds, with the exception of avocado, chocolate, anything caffeinated or carbonated, alcohol, tomato leaves (why a person would eat that anyway, I'm not sure), onion, and mushrooms.

So to say, potato chips are safe, but they are not healthy at all. Even for people, chips are fatty, salty, and greasy and it's highly advised that you avoid chips. For birds, they're much smaller and the ingredients take more of an effect in their bodies. They don't take salt very well in their systems in the quantity chips have them in.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that they can be used for the rarely occasional treat, but not too often or /that/ will cause health issues. The dry plain popcorn Christie D suggested is a good treat to share with your bird, also.

I know for sure that it is safe to feed birds potato chips. As a human, you know that if you eat too much of something, it will result in health problems. You can feed it chips, just not every day. I would say about every week.

Potato chips aren't very good to feed your bird, the salt and fat on it may not be harmful for humans, but it can kill a bird. There are many websites and books that list harmful foods for birds. Try googling cockatial "harmful foods".

They can but not even a whole chip if they get too much it is not good for them. Occasionally letting them have a piece of your chip wont hurt it but do not make a habit of it.
