Birds - December 2006

[Selected]: All categories Pets Birds

Chickens are highly intelligent, are liek parrots who cant fly or talk, leave you eggs. I know of a few chickens who lived indoors and had their own little doggy door and roamed the town during the day like a cat and came in at night. They love to be petted and scratched. They live decently long lives. And come in many shapes and colors. So my question to you is would you ever consider buying a pet chicken? You would buy a fertile chicken egg and would be able to hatch it yourself and raise it yourself and treat it just like a cat or dog. Would anyone be interested in something like this?

I just bought a baby budgie today. Its pale yellow with some pastel yellow. Its got flecks of bright green (nearly fluro) and some blue on its breast. It also has a black ring around its back, on its wings. Its fairly quiet ( maybe cos its getting used to its new surroundings). I am not sure if its a boy or a girl so I'm after a unisex name, something good. I like the name Butter but I'm not sure...help!!! Thanks

I just bought her yesterday and she was healthy. she is also a tamed cockatiel. Now she just hangs around at the bottom of the cage and i am worried about her. I don't think it is normal, and i want to know what is happening to her.

I put a nesting box in her cage that she shares with our male parakeet thinking they were trying to mate. She has been in the box for 3 weeks or more without coming out except occasionally for very short periods. I thought for sure she had eggs, but there are none. She doesn't feed herself or come out to fly. She looked like she was bottom heavy when she first went in and I thought for sure. She shredded the paper we gave them. She's molted and the area around her nostrils turned pale - all signs of impending motherhood from my reading. Could something be wrong? It has been suggested that she might be 'eggbound' and can't lay the egg(s). If so what can I do??

Hay all,

I was wondering if I can trim my parrots claws. They are razer sharp and when she is climbing all over us she scratches.
If I can trim them, at what age can I trim them? She is 12 weeks old.

Thanks.

In a cockatoo size cage it is just the normal size cage you would use for a cockatoo. In N.S.W Australia

Its not me but have seen somebody with this and would like to know what the law is about this

With the help of their wings , feathers , bones , and strong , but light and bendable . Their bones are hollow , and their tail helps them balance and steer . When it flies , a bird flaps its wings down and forward , then more quickly up and back

I think they's be far less likely to have their heads chopped off and be put in the oven if they just gave us a song occasionally. I mean, when was the last itme you ate a nightingale?

Can anyone give me any information on keeping chickens as pets indoors? I know of a man who used to do this he had a hen who acted just like a cat and wandered around town during the day and came inside at night.
