Roosters too!
I've had several chickens as roosters as pets but none as special as my rooster, Chief! Chief was 1/2 Rhode Island Red and 1/2 white Leghorn so he was a fairly big boy. Every morning at exactly 7:00 a.m., Chief was at the back door "knocking" with his beak. I'd open the door and Chief would come in, go to the master bathroom, hop up on the counter and wait for me to get dressed to go feed. When I was ready he hopped down, headed for the back door and accompanied me and the 14 cats to the barn. During the day Chief was at my side every moment; while I cleared land, Chief and my old Chow dog laid side by side watching me. If I went into the house, he perched on the deck railing until I came back out. At night, he reveresed the morning routine and walked with me to the barn for the evening feeding and putting everyone to bed.
The morning that Chief failed to knock at the back door, I knew the coyotes had taken my good friend. That was 13 years ago and I still miss him.

Why not? As a kid I got attached to one of my grandfathers chickens. They would not let it come inside with me though. They were nice and did not slaughter that one for I was attached to it, and even to this day have a picture of me with this hen!
Clean up after this chicken, chicken poo has I think it is salmonella in it. Like lizards...
Oh that singer who was killed had a pet chicken, Salina. Or at least the movie about her life it showed she had a chicken as a pet lol!
People can make pets out of any critter! Have fun with your pet!

Some chicks I've had were born in an incubator. A few of them, cos guess I was their mom became use to me. I have a lot of dogs that will not bother the chickens, but some of my chickens act like my dogs...my neighbors like to see this and I guess both me and my dogs raised them to be pets. For instance when I come home all of them, (dogs, chickens) will come to great me with tails and feathers wagging, cute to watch...UNTIL they get their treats and my dogs finish them before the chickens. LOL, they give me and my friends joy daily. Oh only because my chickens don't finish their treat as fast as my dogs, and watching the chickens protect their food!! My dogs have learned to ask for another treat rather that take the chickens treat!!!! I'm gonna film this one day. OH OH wait till they come to you and want their heads scratched, just like my tiel they will bow their head to have you scratch it, so cute.

Although chickens can make delight-full pets, why not a Budgie Cockatiel? Budgies are inexpensive(I purchased mine for $9.95.), require little in the way of food or accommodations and are about as intelligent as African Greys. They can lean to talk, are extremely curious and get along with my other parrots, especially Grouch, my cockatiel. As companion pets, it's hard to beat a cockatiel. Their gentle deamonor, soft feathers(for stroking) and sweet voice will reward you with years of joy.
