Depends, how is your bird acting? If s/he is used to being part of a flock, s/he might be happier with a new friend. If your bird is bonded to you, s/he might prefer to keep it a twosome.

If you do get a new friend, make sure you quarantine. A good quarantine is supposed to be 30 days. That ensures that your birds won't pass diseases to each other and gives you time to get to know the new bird on an individual basis.

Also, watch your bird to make sure it isn't sick. Do you know why your other bird died?

I lost one once and I could tell his companion friend really felt it - he would seem to fly to the places they would go in the house and would look around. I did go choose another one but for health reasons you are not suppose to join them together right away so you spend this time bonding with the one you had already - it will make you both feel better And bond with the new one while they have to be apart- they say from a couple weeks to a month is good. And then slowly introduce them slowly. Puting the cages next to each other to let them correspond verbally and then maybe together just for a little bit every day-how they re act together will determine when their ready for all the time.

You ll all be fine! ,

Good Luck

If you don t have an extra cage - getting a smaller one will be fine and you can always use it at other times - like for transportation for travel to the Vets and whatever.
