I just bought a baby budgie today. Its pale yellow with some pastel yellow. Its got flecks of bright green (nearly fluro) and some blue on its breast. It also has a black ring around its back, on its wings. Its fairly quiet ( maybe cos its getting used to its new surroundings). I am not sure if its a boy or a girl so I'm after a unisex name, something good. I like the name Butter but I'm not sure...help!!! Thanks

I am also interested in names. I haven t come up with one for my newest and fourth baby budgie. Yes it is very normal for it to be more quiet in the begining - it is readjusting to its new home with diffferent sounds and such. Waiting to see when it is more comfortable - starting to play with things in its cage and starting some chatter. Just put it in an area that is warm and cozy and wher the action is- they will love to be talked to in the meantime. One step at at time.

Please do not pay attention to the Website of Everything budgie- at least on their advice on Budgie taming - it sounds cruel and dangerous. Never force an Pet to tame it (Towel thing or grabbing it would be scary). Especially the Wing Clipping part which isn t detailed enough and can cost you the life of your budgie if not done properly. If you clip the wings go to a professional and even the place you bought it at might have more experienced in this or know where to send you. You clip wrongly and the budgie can bleed to death.

Good luck on finding a name for it - theres no hurry - it will come to you as you go along and especially when it starts warming up to you and its new home - it will start to show some of its precious Personality and this will make it easier. So far my fourth one should be called is Scaredy Cat but that name is a bit too long- even when it cuddles by my neck and does go on my finger. It can still be a bit anxious sometimes. Maybe - Sweet Pea..

Yours seems to have really nice coloring - I love the blues and Yellows.

I say that you should name it something based on personality. And maybe go somewhere for some help since its a new bird, and you don't sound like you have had birds before (not knowing how to tell its sex) Not being mean, but here is a nice website for you to go to with any questions you have about birds. Everyone there is friendly and such, and we can help you become a great "parront" http://www.allthingsfeathered.com/

Yes, as someone said previously, you can tell the gender of the budgie by the color of the flesh above the beak. Yes, tan/brown for females, and blue for boys. BUT when they are still young ALL of them - male and female - have purple flesh above their beaks. So... if it's still young, you might not want to rely on that.

I have had many budgies, their names were Sky, Sunny, Cleo, and Puzzles. My current ones are Chip (or Chippy) and Chex (or Chexie)
