I am remodeling a 5000 sq foot home that currently has 200 amp service. My contractor says we need to upgrade to 400 amps because we will have 2 heatpumps and one ac unit and about 75 recessed lighting fixtures when we're done. The developer says 200 amp service is fine for this load. Who is right?

I want to paint my living room, but my living room rolls right into the kitchen, and 2 hallways. I want to paint a dark shade of red but am afraid that it would be too much. Should I paint the main wall a contrasting color to the red or paint it all red?

...but when I suggested hiring a professional house organizer, my Mom snapped at me and said it's insulting to her. She thinks that members of the family themselves should clean up the mess, primarily the mother. Thing is, half of our house (and we live in a three-storey house) is clutter! She never has the time to clean up her own closet, let alone the whole house! I have suggested throwing away old stuff to minimize junk but she wants to keep them for keepsake or because of sentimental reasons, whatever. I honestly do not want to live in a messy house (who does?) so how do I make our household more livable? I am going to move out soon, but I don't want them to live in that pile of junk of a house too. HELP!!!

We have already tried the non slip pads as well as 2 way tape. The movement will even cause a couch placed on the area rug to move. We are reluctant to use nails as we don't really want to cut either of thr rugs.

I live near Chicago, IL and like most homes here, I have textured walls and ceilings. I am having some remodeling done in my home where I am combining two bedrooms into one. The walls have a sand like texture. The ceiling has a deaper popcorn texture. I have had some contrctors and there seams to be differing opinions on what I should do to have smooth walls. A few want to re-drywall the entire rooms because they claim skim coating will crack. Others say skim coating is fine and a cheaper way to go. What are the pros and cons? I need help in deciding which way to go.

I've been searching but cannot find a place that sells built in bedroom dressers. The kind where only the draws are finished or unfinished and the rest goes through the wall into attic space. Basically it looks like you have draws coming through the wall. I know they sell them but I've had no luck finding them..

I have a 78" window with two sets of bifold plantation shutters. I need some color in the room and something to break it up. I want to build a valance over the shutters but it has to be far enough away from the wall to allow me to open up the shutters and see the beautiful tropical setting outside. Has anyone dealt with this before? Please help...

We have bought a house with a huge living room approx 6m x 6m. One wall has a window running floor to ceiling the whole width of the room, but this leads into another room so it is quite dark and not very cosy. We have 2 brown leather sofas and 2 cream leather sofas. I want to brighten it up and make it feel cosy but practical with 4 kids running riot in it.
Any ideas

The hob looks and works fine - but the controls knobs are now rather battered looking and spoil the look of the appliance. I'm in the UK.
