I want to paint my living room, but my living room rolls right into the kitchen, and 2 hallways. I want to paint a dark shade of red but am afraid that it would be too much. Should I paint the main wall a contrasting color to the red or paint it all red?

I personally would paint one wall that flows from room to room, preferably the wall you see upon entering into the room. The surrounding walls would be a lighter contrasting color.

Use the red to "stop" the living room from flowing into the kitchen. Then use a neutral color on the other walls to distinguish the rooms. Make sure the kitchen matches the neutral color but possibly a different shade to keep the rooms more separate. Home depot was an excellent recommendation too,,, photo a "long shot" of the room and take it with you...
From my personal experience ALL RED will be too overwhelming for the room. A little color in the right place will speak volumes about your qualtiy "taste" Good luck and
Happy painting

I would paint one wall red as your accent wall and keep the other ones neutral color. Ideally it would be the wall that doesn't open to one of the other areas. I did this in my last apartment and it looked great. We did a burgundy/reddish color on the longest wall and went with a light tan on the other walls with a bit of darker tan trip.

I say with reds you have to paint several times over.

if you are painting a dark red, paint the other wall a dark brown and decorate around those colors. please do use some light colors for accessiors or it will be way too dark
