We have bought a house with a huge living room approx 6m x 6m. One wall has a window running floor to ceiling the whole width of the room, but this leads into another room so it is quite dark and not very cosy. We have 2 brown leather sofas and 2 cream leather sofas. I want to brighten it up and make it feel cosy but practical with 4 kids running riot in it.
Any ideas

Before you put any furniture in it, put a paint sprayer (similar to those water sprayers on bowling greens) in the middle of the room, cover the windows & turn the paint sprayer on, using a remote facility, so you're not in the room with it! When the paint has coated the walls, turn it off. Job done!

You will need to look at lighting as you say the window end leads into another room which is quite dark. So lighting helps with that problem. Accent lights like standing lamps and spotlighting. If you like wallpaper there are some great looking designs around at the mo. You dont have to cover every wall.. Choose a wall which looks good for a focal point, maybe it has a fire place on it. You didnt say if there were alcoves or just all straight flat walls. On the wall you choose for wallpaper put a huge mirror which will reflect more light. Co-ordinate the wallpaper with the colour of the sofas and add lots of accessories to match, with textures and patterns but dont go over the top with them, less is more. The colour palettes around at the moment are brilliant, lots of combinations which work really well together. You could take it all a step further and make up a mood board with all the things you and have seen from colours to textures of fabrics etc. Helps you to see what it is you want and can live with. Get some contemporary artwork for the other plain walls which should be painted in a colour to compliment the other accessories or wallpaper. And dressing is very important. Pick up some mags like Livingetc & Good Homes.

OK, Here is what you need to do.

What you can do is flank the two leather sofas facing each other in front of the window with a large rustic looking coffee table made of wood as you have children, with possibly an opening in it for storage, otherwise I would have recommended a glass coffee table. Also what you need are two chairs to make a conversation area. The two chairs could be wing chairs, or two club chairs in a coordinating fabric, say maybe a paisley tapestry print incorporating all of the colors I recommend in the next paragraph. Also you could use what they call stacked tables that can be placed by a chair when someone is sitting there and has a drink etc. Also on the other side of the brown sofa, you should have an end table and a nice lamp in bronze by Stiffel.

If you have a TV in the room you may be able to make it a focal point on the other side of the room and use the two cream leather sofas there. It is very difficult to give you ideas when I cannot see the room. But as far as a color scheme, Brown, reddish rust, olive green, medium blue, cream. Buy some throw pillows with those colors and put them on all of the sofas. Then buy an area rug, maybe an oriental rug with all those colors, brown, beige, reddish rust, green. medium blue..and put it under the coffee table by the brown leather sofas. I guarantee you that it will dress up the room and make it feel warm and cosy. Good Luck with your decorating project.

Pick a focal point. Keep the furniture out of the walkways. Take care of the large window with nice window coverings. If you want the window to be noticed pick something bold if not neutral. Keep decorative items on the walls and not on the tables. Then your children can play freely. Also sturdy lamps, no ceramic or glass, but yet have style. Use colors that are light but classify as warm. You can find the color classifications anywhere paint is sold. Get paint samples and bring them home to see in your lighting before deciding. Can you add additional ceiling or accent lighting anywhere?

Here is a good site that has lots of cool home decor ideas. Lots of Moroccan and Mediterranean stuff - which I feel gives a cozy look. Some of their pieces tend to be oversized, this may help with the large room.

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/wbDX7
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.

Make a couple of smaller seating area arrangements within the room, this should help.
